Great value accommodation, the property is dated which is reflected in the price but whoever is on their housekeeping team needs some serious recognition. The room was absolutely spotless and for an older building this is extra impressive. Would defo recommend for a budget option near the airport.
nnMy friends and I stayed at this so-called “hotel” while visiting Christchurch for a festival. It was all of our first times in Christchurch and we were really excited for the trip, but unfortunately this place completely ruined the experience.nnOn the first night of our three-night stay, we discovered that the toilet in our room was leaking. Water was coming out from the entire base of the toilet and spreading across the bathroom floor. It smelled absolutely disgusting and made the bathroom extremely unpleasant to use. The next morning we went to reception to report the issue, assuming it would be taken seriously. Instead, we were met with one of the most ridiculous responses imaginable. The staff member casually told us, “Oh yes, you’re in the ‘mystery room’. We call it that because the toilet leaks and we don’t know why.”nnNot only were they already aware of the problem, they had apparently turned it into some sort of joke. When we asked if they could call a plumber to fix it, they immediately refused. Their “solution” was to offer us a spare towel to place on the floor to soak up the leaking water. To make matters worse, they even said, “Don’t worry, we won’t charge you for the extra towel,” as if we should somehow be grateful for not being charged to deal with a problem they clearly already knew existed before we even checked in.nnThe towel they promised was never delivered. We only managed to get one after stopping a cleaner ourselves and asking for it directly.nnThe shower was just as bad. It was practically impossible to use because only a weak trickle of water came out of the shower head. The pressure was so pathetic that the only way to wash was to stand in the bathtub and splash water on ourselves. For four people staying in the room for several days, this was completely unacceptable.nnTo add to the frustration, the hotel’s website claims it is only eight minutes from town, which is simply not true. It consistently took us around twenty minutes to get to the main part of town.nnBy the second-to-last day of our stay, we had had enough. With the leaking toilet, unusable shower, and the overall lack of effort from staff, it was clear that the situation was unacceptable and that some form of compensation was warranted. We went to reception multiple times that day to speak with someone about it, yet every time the desk was completely unattended. Eventually we found a number to text and contacted them that way instead.nnThe responses were extremely slow and eventually stopped altogether. At one point we were told that we could “contact the boss if we wanted,” which is an outrageous level of laziness and lack of responsibility. As paying customers, we should not have to chase down management ourselves just to have a legitimate complaint acknowledged.nnWe did exactly what they suggested and emailed the boss. Unsurprisingly, we have received absolutely no response.nnThe service we experienced here is beyond unacceptable. While we understand that the hotel may have been busy due to the festival and possibly unable to move us to another room, the way this situation was handled afterwards was disgraceful. We spent our hard-earned money to stay here and expected at the very least that they would make some genuine attempt to resolve the situation.nnThe fact that they knowingly allowed guests to book a room with a broken, leaking toilet that they were already aware of is shocking. In our view, the only reasonable response would have been to offer some form of compensation. Instead, our messages and emails have been completely ignored.nnWe would absolutely never recommend staying here. Avoid this place if you value basic hygiene, functioning facilities, and even the smallest level of customer service.
The restaurant..nOne of the cities best kept secrets,..nThe menu read a little underwhelming through lack of details, but the food was definitely up there with the best of the best, and amazingly affordable pricing.nDefinitely want to go here, we'll be back most definitely.
My friends and I stayed at this “hotel” while in Christchurch for a festival. It was all of our first times in Chch and we were very excited, only to be disappointed after this stay. On our first night of a 3 night stay, we discovered that the toilet was leaking. There was water coming out from the entire bottom of the toilet. It smelt terrible and, in the morning, we went to the reception to inform them of the issue. The response we received was “oh yes, you are in the “mystery room”. We call it that because the toilet leaks and we don’t know why!” We then queried whether they could get a plumber to come and fix it and they immediately declined. The solution they provided was that they would bring a spare towel around for us which the reception then said “don’t worry, we aren't going to charge you for the extra towel” as if we should be charged for a solution to a problem they knew about prior to our stay. The towel was never brought around and we only got it when we stopped the cleaner and asked for it ourselves. The shower was also abysmal and was near impossible to shower in. We had to stand in the bath tub and splash ourselves because there was only dribbles coming out of the shower head. For 4 people staying in a room for multiple days, this is entirely unacceptable. On the hotel’s website, it claims to be 8 minutes from town but that is completely untrue. It took us approximately 20 minutes to get into the main part of town. On the second to last day of our stay, we decided that everything that had gone wrong with our room was unacceptable and we deserved some compensation for it. We went to the reception multiple times that day and not once was there someone there that we could talk to. We found a number we could text and did so, seeking compensation. The responses were very slow and eventually stopped completely. We were told via text that we could contact the “boss if we wanted” which, again, is unacceptable as we should not have to chase around for this and instead should be given consideration after all the issues. We have since emailed the boss and have, again, received no response. This is completely unacceptable service. While we understand that they may have been at full capacity because of the festival and unable to move us to another room, the conduct that has since followed is extremely disappointing. We are paying customers who spent our hard earned money on this stay and we would expect at the very least that they would try to rectify the situation to the very best of their abilities. The room should never have been able to be booked if there was an issue they knew about prior. It seems to all of us that the fair solution would have been to offer some sort of monetary compensation but, instead, our texts and emails have been completely ignored. We would never recommend staying here.
Stayed at the Redwood Hotel for three nights at what we thought was a reasonable price at first. However, we found out early on in our stay that our toilet leaked. When we told reception about this issue, they stated they already knew and could not get a plumber in. To remedy the situation they said they would give us an extra towel to put down. The next day Saturday we tried to go to reception three times to ask for some sort of compensation as we did not want to pay full price for a room with this major issue. However, nobody was in reception the entire day. We then contacted them over text message. They said they would try sort it out with their boss but when I followed up many days later we had since left they said we could email her boss. We have since emailed and there has been no response. The water pressure was also horrible near impossible to shower and the location is quite far from town. Really do not recommend staying here - if you end up in this room you are basically paying for just a bed.
