Firstly, the customer service is amazing! The staff were friendly, professional, and attentive. There were some negatives:nnWe arrived early at around 11.00, our room wasn't ready, but for $120 in addition to the $340/night I was already paying we would be able to check in early. This seems to me to be a gratuitous cash grab; if there's a room ready, we should be able to check in.nnThere is no secure wi-fi - who does that?! I attempted to download a book on my e-reader, I gave up trying to connect the e-reader to the wi-fi after trying for 20 minutes.nnThe Smart TV isn't so smart. We only had access to live TV. This is 2026, not 2006 - very few people watch live TV any longer. We could not access our streaming apps, so we were forced to watch a movie only to be interrupted every 15 minutes or so with 12 to 14 ads yes, I counted them, what fun!nnWhile the room was stylish, it lacked some functional elements, such as light switches on both sides of the bed; when there's 2 guests, light switches only on one side is inconvenient. Also the door to the bathroom is frosted glass, while cute, it lets light into the room when one is using the bathroom. Again, inconvenient when there's 2 guests.
In over 25 years of being members with Accor, we have never had such a wonderful experience as we did at Sofitel Wellington, where we truly felt valued as guests. From the moment we stepped onto the pavement outside the hotel upon arrival until we left five days later, we were overwhelmed by the exceptional service, friendly staff and the high quality of food in the restaurant. The service was truly excellent and went above and beyond our expectations — the staff were warm, welcoming and genuinely eager to help.nnThe buffet breakfast was outstanding, with fresh, high-quality food and a great variety. A special mention goes to Yashim in the breakfast restaurant, who was exceptionally warm and friendly and made our mornings even more enjoyable. Also to the General Manager Liam who was friendly, helpful and always had a warm smile.nnThe rooms were lovely, well-appointed, and offered excellent amenities, making our stay very comfortable.nnWe highly recommend Sofitel Wellington and look forward to staying there again soon.
We absolutely loved our stay! The location was so convenient and our room was stunning. But the highlight for us was how well looked after we felt by all the staff! Everyone was so kind and welcoming to us and a special mention to hunter at reception who looked after us so well. Thank you all.
If there were an award for the best beds in the world, Sofitel Wellington would win it—hands down, eyes closed, fast asleep. The rooms are spacious, elegant, and effortlessly luxurious, and the hotel itself is everything you’d expect from Sofitel: refined, calm, and consistently amazing.nnBut what truly sets Sofitel Wellington apart from every other hotel is its people. I travel constantly for work, so hotels can blur into one another—but not this one. Walking in and being greeted with, “Anji! We haven’t seen you in a while—how have you been?” stopped me in my tracks. They remembered my name. A welcome glass of champagne at check-in, a handwritten note in my room, and a sweet treat waiting in the fridge simply for being a returning guest—these gestures don’t cost much time or money, but they mean the world. They make you feel seen, valued, and genuinely welcome.nnA very special shout-out to Daniel, who consistently makes every stay feel warm, personal, and memorable. Sofitel Wellington doesn’t just offer luxury—it delivers heart. And that’s why I’ll keep coming back.
To be very honest this hotel exceeded my expectations. From the customer service to the room itself, everything was handled with care and professionalism. The breakfast was outstanding from fresh sourdough to honeycomb and I truly appreciated how accommodating they were with dietary needs. Unlike other hotels aka Kamana. At no point did I feel like I had to compromise or ask twice. The staff were attentive, warm and genuinely welcoming. If i had known they also had a location in Queenstown, I would have booked here instead without hesitation. The overall experience was calm, comfortable and thoughtful exactly what you hope for when traveling. Highly recommended and I would absolutely stay here again.
