We booked a junior suite, the room and corridors were freezing cold on our arrival. The hotel overall, including the room is dated, scruffy and in need of decorating and refurbishment.nFor nearly $400 per night the room resembled a motel room, basic kitchenette, cheap tea/coffee options, no mini bar.nThe bathroom had a spa bath, no bubble bath, and the available bottle of soap was screwed down so couldn’t be used in the bath.nWe booked a table in the restaurant, which was mediocre, the food arrived after 10 minutes of ordering, before the drinks had even arrived. Certainly not a leisurely dining experience. Very basic fish and oven chips cost $40.nWe went out for the evening and returned to the hotel just after 10pm, finding the bar was closed on a Friday night.nWe live in Wellington and regularly stay in town, this is by far the worst hotel we have stayed in in comparison to other Wellington city hotels.nOn checking out I would like to have been able to share my thoughts and was waiting for the “how was your stay” question, unfortunately this wasn’t asked and with minimal communication from the reception staff we left.nI would certainly not recommend staying at the Copthorne, there are far better and more inviting places to stay in Wellington.
The meals, especially breakfast and dinner, we're delightful, and the bar staff added a nice touch to the overall experience. The stunning harbour view was a bonus.nWhen I arrived at reception to check out, I was informed that I had not paid for two breakfasts. I explained that I had covered all my breakfasts for four nights and that everything was paid. Unfortunately, we were in a rush for our tain, so I reluctantly paid again for the extra breakfasts. Once I got home, I contacted the hotel to clarify the situation. I reiterated that I had paid for everything and questioned the additional charges for two breakfasts when we had only enjoyed four nights worth. The manager assured me she would investigate, but I did not receive a follow-up. Upon calling again, I learned from the reception that there had been an error, I should have only been charged for four breakfasts. Despite recognising their mistake, the manager offered no apology
This hotel is so tired and rundown with mould in the bathroom along the bath and shower curtain to the stained and torn carpet.nThe pillows were awful and there was no option to get any different.nThe only good points were the amazing staff and the restaurant but the cleaning needs addressing.nThe milk supplied with the room was in a tetra pack dispensed by a straw which was so messy to use.nIt’s a good location an easy walk to everywhere but parking is $30 a night and incredibly tight spaces.nWe had a family room but there is 2 chairs in the room and the tv is in front of the double bed,nWe would not return to this hotel and do not suggest it to anyone.
Nice modern hotel, close to Te Papa and groceries at New World, harbourfront walk. Had a lovely waterfront view and I always like a bottle of fresh milk for tea, absolutely hate those stupid creamer plastic cuplets the cheapos give. Nice amenities. Nice breakfast too. Only cons for me is that same-ish decor you see nowadays; grey or black or white or beige with a plop of colour. That view, though, made me very happy.
Location was perfect. Beautiful views and close to the beach and city.nWe stayed for 4 nights and it seemed that the cleaners don’t service the rooms that are occupied until after they have cleaned the vacated rooms… which meant by the time they got to our room it was after 2.30-3.30 and by then it was too late….and we were back in our room. Since check in isn’t till 2pm I would expect the rooms with people that are staying longer to be serviced first.nThere were no robes…. Which I would expect for a Millennium Hotel.nThe carpets look rough and the inside of the rooms and out in the hallway are really shabby along with the walls and doors, seen better days.nNice comfortable beds.nBreakfast would be hit and miss…. A lot of things in both the hot and continental sections would run out and take forever to refill. Something as simple as the bread and a lot of the time the fruit and pastries wouldn’t get refilled and we would get sick of waiting and leave.nLounge area really nice for a drink and to look at the view.
