The 6th floor bedroom we had lacked modern windows. This meant our room was like an oven when the sun shone. The air conditioning unit was no where near good enough to reduce the temperature of the room.nnBoth mornings saw our room window with condensation running down it.nnThe room was so warm it made a decent night's sleep impossible.
I have been here a couple of times now and have always loved and raved about it but today we got absolutely traumatised using the spa area. It was like stepping into a monkey cage. About 10 kids were wildly jumping into the pool, fighting with pool noodles, throwing balls, spitting the water around. Even in the hot pool the kids played ball. The entire pool was occupied by them and their parents encouraging it. It was honestly so incredibly loud and stressful, that we felt like we need a vacation after that! There was no rules, no one who came and checked for basic decency. We had to leave as it was seriously unbearable - it felt like a family entertainment park. For around 300NZD a night we hoped for a rather different experience - we wanted to treat ourselves, unwind and relax but that was quite the opposite. Additionally there are a few other smaller things, that for a 4-star hotel, aren’t really appropriate. Our shower isn’t holding up/broken. The sink/bathroom table is damaged and we got neither robes nor slippers/slides for the spa area - so everyone walks in with their street shoes. We honestly remembered it differently here and feel like this experience is quite different from what we experienced the last couple times here. Unfortunately very disappointing overall
Bed bugs!! We stayed the first night in a room that to be fair was pretty sparse for the money.nnNext morning both my partner and I were covered in bed bug bites.nnI discreetly let management know and the moved us to another room, promising to rectify the situation and send “in a team”nnThey promised to advise whether or not they found bedbugs or not.nnThey also said that they were credited us one night as we were staying 4 nights.nnI am disappointed to say that we never heard back and we’re not credited for our night that was promisednnI would strongly suggest you give strong and serious thought to staying at this hotel
This is the first hotel I've stayed at in South Island in a fortnight that I have been really disappointed with! From the very start the reception staff came across unwilling to assist, and unwelcoming, so much so I felt I was being made to feel I was the one that was lucky to be staying there.nnThe room was small and dated tho listed as executive. Was very glad I was solo. It was clean. Curtains struggled to block daylight. Strange floor based ac was very noisy even on lowest setting which was needed in airless room. Shower water not contained in cubicle.nnPool was ok tho sauna didn't work.nnBreakfast buffet had lids not hinged on pots which is awkward when you have a plate in one hand and are trying to manage lid and tongs in the other.nnGood location to wharf precinct.nnObviously I won't be back and won't recommend.
ProsnPleasant stay, complimentary alcohol, perfect location, valet service for car parking. Overall excellent hospitalitynnConsnOld ac and it was not cooling enough , additionally it was difficult to find tv remote to turn off screensaver. It was bit of hassle to turn off during night.
