The Ridges Hotel is a solid, practical choice in Melbourne with good value for what it offers. The location feels convenient for exploring the city, and it’s easy to get around from there whether you’re walking or catching transport.nnThe rooms are comfortable and well cared for clean, functional, and with all the essentials you need for a stay. I’d describe them as simple but pleasant not overly fancy, but enough to rest well and feel at ease.nnThe staff are friendly and helpful, and check-in/check-out is smooth, which always counts when you’re travelling.nnOn the downside, there’s nothing ultra memorable or luxurious about the hotel. The common areas are fine and the design is clean, but it’s not a place you go to be wowed more a place you go to rest and recharge after exploring the city. If you’re after spa facilities, a big pool, or standout amenities, this isn’t really that spot.nnIt’s a great base for exploring Melbourne, walkable to many spots or easy transport access.nRooms are more simple and functional than stylish or high-end. Ask about any package deals or dining options when you book sometimes there are extras that add value. Perfect for short stays, business trips, or travel where you care more about comfort than wow-factor.nnOverall, The Ridges is solid, dependable, and comfy a good pick if you want a fuss-free place to stay in Melbourne without crazy prices or pretense.
We got a great deal on a large suite which had everything we needed, including a washer/dryer combo which was really handy. The staff were attentive and even brought me a smaller pillow when I asked. Beds are comfy if you like them soft I’m a bit Goldilocks and prefer mine firmer.nnThe main letdown was the leisure amenities. I was really looking forward to using the rooftop pool, but it was tiny and there’s no sauna. It’s a bit disappointing for such a large, busy hotel. Rival hotels nearby offer more in that area, and given Melbourne’s unpredictable weather, it would’ve been nice to have somewhere relaxing to hang out other than the room.nnOur room was clean, though the glasses tasted faintly of cleaning spray. Room service was average 5/10. The kids pasta was bland, especially for nearly $20. Breakfast had a few hits and misses: lemon pancakes were lovely, but the chocolate croissants were dry and quite bitter. The bar also wasn’t our favourite, with a limited selection, pricey drinks, and not a particularly warm vibe.nnAll up, a comfortable stay and great location, but with a few tweaks, especially to the leisure facilities and food, it could be much better.
The hotel has some great positives. The location is excellent, the bed was very comfortable, and I really liked the Chromecast/stream cast option however, it often dropped out, which was frustrating. The gym was clean and had great equipment, and the lobby felt modern and well designed.nnUnfortunately, the stay was let down by several issues. The lighting in the room, especially in the bathroom, was very poor. It made it really difficult to do makeup or see how we looked in anything close to natural lighting. The bathroom layout was also not practical, as there was no door to the shower, which left the floor soaking wet. Because housekeeping wasn’t happening regularly, we were left with a wet bath mat for days.nnHousekeeping was the biggest issue. After the second night, our room was not serviced, despite clearly displaying the “please refresh our room” hanger on the door. When we spoke to reception, they couldn’t explain why the room hadn’t been serviced, though they did offer drink vouchers, which was appreciated. We were told someone would come up straight away, but we waited about 40 minutes before the room was refreshed, which was frustrating as it was around 5pm and we were trying to get ready to go out for dinner. On the third and fourth nights, there was still no housekeeping. When we followed up again on the fourth night, we were told we had apparently opted into the green/sustainability option at check-in, which we definitely did not request and was never communicated to us by the lady who checked us in. At this stage, since our room wasn’t being serviced regardless, we agreed to accept the $10 per night credit and confirmed this with the male staff member at the desk.nnFollowing this, we dined at the bar downstairs so we could use our food and beverage credit; however, at checkout we were told there was an outstanding balance on our room. When I asked to apply the credit which we were advised we would have $60, we were told we had no credit available at all, despite having previously been advised otherwise. When I tried to explain the situation, the female staff member who checked us out was quite blunt and dismissive. No apology was offered; instead, we were simply told “all good, you can go,” which left a very poor final impression.nnOverall, the hotel has some good features, but the lack of communication and repeated housekeeping issues were very disappointing and impacted our experience.
Rydges Melbourne was amazing.nnService was exceptional, and the manager personally welcomed my Mum and I. His thoughtful gesture of providing us with a complimentary coffee immediately set a warm and accommodating tone.nnThe room itself was impeccably clean and tidy, providing a comfortable atmosphere for our stay. Such outstanding service and quality.nnHighly recommend.
My husband had a wonderful stay for wedding anniversary. We were welcomed to the room with a handwritten card, champagne and chocolate, which was very generous and a great way to start our weekend. I manage a hotel myself so I'm pretty particular and I can happily say that I would be very pleased to check a guest into this room. It was impeccably clean, modern and tasteful, with everything you would need.nI wish it was warm enough to use the rooftop pool because it looked beautiful, we will have to come back during the summer.nThey do offer contactless check in/out via a kiosk. I prefer to chat to a person, although this came in handy for check out as there was a line and we were able check out quickly without having to wait.
