Due to a debilitating fall at Z Roscommon Road petrol station I was forced to visit the Emergency at North Shore Hospital as my injuries were worsening and Very Painful.nDespite spending about 7 hours mainly sitting uncomfortably in the general waiting area, the medical staff were attentive and caring and did give me a bed during the last half-hour of the 7 hours. I received pain meds, a scan, MRI & X-ray, initially showing no fracture, but subsequently was phoned that evening to say I had a fractured rib.nOn a subsequent visit referred by my doctor for a pelvic X-ray and scan I only had a 5 hour wait.nWhile I appreciate the higher priority cases and waiting times on my 1st visit I didn't even see a doctor and the 2nd visit I saw an Orthopedic Surgeon who appeared somewhat distracted and uninterested in me.nWould recommend going elsewhere if you can afford it.nThe medical care may be free, but the parking is Astronomically HIGH!
My husband was given excellent care at N/S ED on Saturday the 28th of September. He saw Kate Nurse Practitioner intern! Kate was amazing and she gave very professional care, attention and showed empathy! My husband understood everything that he was told which put his mind at rest! Well done! Kind regards, Alison & Derek Hobbs
Felt third world!! Absolutely atrocious behaviour by the eldest caucasian lady at the front desk. She was racist to the lovely lady infront of me trying to help her elderly father. Saying he been in a lot of pain for days. The man could hardly walk. The front desk lady said under her breathe “your father doesn’t look like he’s in that much pain” questioning him even being there, after she had poured her heart out about how much pain he was in. To me it sounded like a possible appendicitis. She then turned me away even though I had a very very deep cut. She didn’t even let me get looked at by the nurses. AND I WAS SENT FROM SHORECARE!!! She made me feel as though maybe I was over reacting? I ended up having to go home and let it heal on its own. It took months! I definitely needed at least stitches. I would bleed out on my bed for weeks. It was the worse customer service I’ve ever experienced as a kiwi. At the very hospital I was born at. Despicable.
I came in waited for 7 hours to be seen and l left in the same condition no fix given just poor diagnosis only this time hungry and tired and no idea what is happening to me. I felt like I live in a 3rd world country, Actually a 3rd world country health system is better as you get proper care and help compared to New Zealand..
The occurrence that lowered my stay there, which had been above average. This was the very late discharge hour. The young doctor had introduced himself, then said we could find nothing wrong, you are being discharged now. Upon asking when? I was told you go anytime now, oh, and here is a prescription. The paperwork with no further explanation was dropped on the bed, and he walked away. Rather, high handed and no explanation regarding the medication, what it was for, etc.
