Elizabeth Knox was so welcoming, from the moment we walked in to find hospital level care for our dad. It has a bright and lovely atmosphere with beautiful courtyards to sit in for visits and cups of tea. Residents can bring their pets, which adds an extra feel of home. He was cared for with kindness and warmth every day and adored all his care staff. They quickly discovered dad's interests and abilities and his life became fuller and richer with the outings and social engagement and he even got stronger going to the gym. We highly recommend Elizabeth Knox as a great choice for home in later life. The staff are absolutely lovely and the whole place feels caring, warm, light and well tended.
I spent a few weeks in respite post surgery in one of the new hospital wings.nThe room was big with its own TV and WiFi. The staff were lovely and very caring. The food was very good and plenty of it. Everything worked to a well defined routine.nI have no regrets on choosing Elizabeth Knox as somewhere to care for me until it was safe to go home.nOn the downside, often the day staff seemed too busy for the number of residents they had to care for in which was a high dependency ward. An additional floating person would have been useful during the busy times - someone who had 'time' but I expect many hospital-care rest homes have the same problem.nFor those who can, you sometimes need to speak up and reinforce what you need. But patience is also important when you see how much help some residents need.
From the moment we approached Elizabeth Knox and met Neil the resident experience manager, everything went smoothly. At a confusing and potentially scary time for us all, we had all our questions answered and needed for nothing. The carer to patient ratio is amazing and the fact the patients get to have mainly their own carer assigned to them is so personal and special and allows for continuity of care and proper relationships to form. The Lifestyle and Entertainment sector at EK is fantastic, Dad was always looking forward to something in his day. Rehab at the gym, crossword sessions, podcast sessions, trips to local gardens etc. This allowed Dad to start connecting and forming a new set of friends, that made his days bright and fun. The care and thought that Elizabeth Knox put into their surrounds and the health and wellbeing of each patient is remarkable. It is not only a place for elderly people, there are a range of ages and abilities which makes it feel more like a proper village and adds to the real life feeling of the place, as does allowing pets to live in, and visit. When our Dad died the respect and love the staff showed him and us all was incredible and fitting with how they carry out daily life at Elizabeth Knox. Heartfelt gratitude always.nRebekah
Like many, when I found myself needing to consider aged care for a parent, there was no guidebook to follow. It’s often something that arrives suddenly, with little time to weigh up options. For me, it was important to find somewhere close to home – in the Remuera, Epsom, Newmarket, Parnell, Greenlane area – that felt right for our specific needs.nnAfter doing some research and speaking with peers, Elizabeth Knox kept coming up as the standout choice. I was told by multiple people that it would be the best solution – and I was extremely pleasantly surprised to learn for myself that they were absolutely right.nnFrom the very beginning, the team at Knox acknowledged how tricky this transition can be and went above and beyond to ease my father in. Since then, the experience has only reinforced that we made the right choice. It’s more than a place to stay – it’s truly a home.nnThe staff are warm, empathetic, and attentive. The facilities are beautifully modern and sunlit, creating an environment that feels premium for a fraction of the price compared to many alternatives. An on-site gym, top-quality food, and a rich programme of extracurriculars make daily life engaging. And the on-site hospital-level care gives us peace of mind that my father won’t need to be moved should his needs change.nnElizabeth Knox is everything we could have hoped for, and more.
My Mother was here for 3 months in the new Totara wing, Mahoe home. The staff members remained consistent and familiar so Mum got to know them. They were very caring and kind to her, nothing was too much trouble. Only on one occasion there could have been a little more discretion, common sense and compassion made by one of the more experienced staff members who wasn’t willing to be more flexible at a very stressful time . Also, they could have done with extra health carers on a few occasions but generally that was when there were unexpected admissions or more complex patients. Doesn’t feel like a hospital, very homely caring facility. Meals were also good the majority of the time . A mixture of elderly and not so elderly all here for their final journey or respite care. Was a lovely experience for Mums final few months.nSarah and family with thanks x
