*Remarkable service from Avis*, way beyond the normal for rental companies. Very helpful and personal staff. I booked and paid in advance -- and got an upgrade! The Toyota Camry Hybrid was spacious, in top condition. Saved enormously on petrol. Currently January 2024 all rental pickups have been relocated a 8-10 minute walk, but there are staff there to help you find and understand your car if necessary. The trick is, book on line some weeks before arrival for the best car I booked through the Air New Zealand web site.

We had a good experience with our 4 day Avis rental from Auckland.   Fair price and enjoyed the 49 miles per US gallon our little, peppy hybrid Corolla achieved.   Easy pick up and drop off.  We picked up at International and dropped off at Domestic terminal they are different garages and desks, a dose of momentary angst because the agent at International said they were staffed starting at 5:00 AM apparently only at International but when we returned at Domestic at 5:15 AM , clearly no one is there until hours later.  But after some brief hunting we found the Domestic key drop and got a receipt a couple hours later via email.  So all good.  Hope someday the good citizens of NZ will have a modern combined international + domestic terminal that makes things easier, fyi the vast majority of the rest of the world went that way in the 1990’s.

I booked a 7 seater for 8 days. Online booking was excellent, pickup service was excellent - service with a smile. But the dent in the service surfaced when the vehicle broke down on the 3rd day. My first call to Avis airport was at 12.10pm from Papatoetoe 10 mins away from the airport and after making multiple calls back and forth to the office, AA, tow truck etc... I reached my hotel in the city at 6pm with a replacement vehicle. Something that they should have sorted with 2-3 hrs especially when I was just 10 mins away. Anyways the lady from Avis whom I spoke to had no clue what she was doing or saying - full of excuses and was trying to blame me for the breakdown. Even she didn't want to connect me to her manager or maybe the manager was trying to avoid me. Eventually the mechanical dude came to inspect the vehicle - possible engine or fuel pump issue. I was told to hop onto the tow truck and pickup a replacement vehicle from the domestic terminal. In short, Avis shouldn't be giving out rundown lemon that had already done over 75,000k of milage and if they do then they got to fix their process so that the customers doesn't have to go in circles for a replacement vehicle. So a day out of my holiday got wasted by Avis. Thanks Avis Auckland Airport for a pathetic service.

Very disappointed to have received my e-receipt, to only receive further 'fuel charges'. Having been charged extra as the car was allegedly returned with 7/8 of fuel, despite the photo evidence clearly showing a FULL 8/8 tank of fuel with an EXACT odometer reading of full tank at the exact sign in odometer reading as per the e-receipt.

Our flight arrived late so there was quite a line at the terminal kiosk as there were a lot of customers from multiple flights waiting. When we got to the front of the line, the guy who served us was really lovely and helpful. The car itself was lovely, the latest model Rav 4 2WD and drove beautifully. Drop off was easy too. Wil definitely be using Avis again on my next trip home.
