Very friendly staff who would chat with us and give us advice on how to get around the city, nearby to bus stops and train stations. Ferry within walking distance. Can walk to shops within 10 minutes, opera house only a 20 minute walk, the harbour bridge is only a bit longer. Candy bar downstairs, basically a buffet with a large amount of lollies, which was great. The breakfast buffet was amazing, the restaurant catered to allergies and triple checked to make sure things were safe to eat. Room was the best I’ve ever stayed in inside Australia, and I have lived in Australia all of my life. Bathroom was amazing, warm and cold water, amazing view from bedroom window.
This is my first review of a hotel because generally I can’t be bothered writing them. But I feel like I got scammed and don’t want others going through the same thing. I really hated my stay here.nnFirst of all, there is no parking included in your booking. You are forced to pay $95 per night for concierge parking or find your own elsewhere. I’ve never been screwed by a hotel like this before.nnThe room was very small. Decor is tacky and off-putting. “Cheap Postmodern” is the only way I can describe it. It’s straight out of a trashy British reality tv show.nnRoom feels grimy, dusty and dirty. We felt dirty the entire time we stayed here. They pump perfume into the air near the lobby to hide how the place really smells.nnThe walls must be paper thin because you can clearly hear everything including footsteps and people talking. I’m guessing that means they can also hear you. The air conditioner is loud and rattles.nnTV has no apps or any entertainment, you have to cast from your phone or laptop. There is an Alexa in the room connected to a decent speaker. Enjoy some nice music along with ads because they were too cheap to get premium.nnThe bathroom sucks. It’s small like the rest of the room along with being too dark. The shower takes 5 minutes just to heat up. The tiles are extremely slippery when wet, again, a sign of cost-cutting. The bathroom is tiny and you couldn’t afford to put in non-slip tiles?nnThe staff seem nice and it’s right by the water. Good restaurants on the wharf. Those are the only good things.nnI don’t know how this hotel can call itself “5 star”. It’s not the worst place I’ve stayed in because I’ve stayed in a caravan park before. But in terms of accommodation it’s hard to get worse value for money in Sydney.
Besides a few issues with breakfast, I loved everything about this hotel!nn- Food & Drinks:nDuring our stay, the breakfast options seemed to alternate between buffet and à la carte menu to one OR the other. I queried this with the front desk, who said they only served buffet breakfast during the weekend, but this wasn't the case as a few days later, the buffet was back.nnThe service at breakfast was also quite slow, but the venue does seem to be popular for large events, so its possible resources are stretched during these times. When the buffet was available, the options were healthy and delicious.nnThe bar at night was welcoming, and drinks were affordable. The mini bar options were also affordable, with lots of choices for all tastes.nn- Location:nI don't know where to begin as the name is such a tongue twister that even the uber driver was confused but once you arrive, and take a 10 minute walk, you'll realise that you're in one of the best locations in Sydney.nnThe hotels proximity to the opera house and the botanic gardens will turn your morning / evening walk into an impromptu photo snapping event. Also, a range of great 'hotels' aka pubs and restaurants are just opposite.nn- Service:nWe arrived to Syndey a lot earlier than we expected a long-distance flight landing on time + a very short commute from the airport, and Jade at the front desk was an absolute star. She helped us with our excessive volume of suitcases and recommended the walk that would become a daily ritual. She was there throughout our stay and was always welcoming, friendly, and very helpful. All the staff we encountered were also very hospitable and friendly.nn- Cost:nConsidering the hotel's location and the size of some of the rooms cityvoo loft, I feel the cost was definitely reasonable. Having access to a self-service laundry and reasonably priced drinks / food was also a welcome addition.nnOverall, it is a memorable, funky, unconventional, vibey hotel in an amazing location with friendly staff. We will be back!
Plus . It was great being back in Sydney's eastern suburbs and finding myself in Woolloomooloo in this comfortable hotel. The staff were friendly and the services great. Good for the business traveller who is in Sydney for the night. The beautiful restoration of the Wharf was a huge plus!nnMinus . The air conditioning system was hard to figure out if it was on or off. The room got no airflow and was a little bit stuffy.
Where to start, we stayed with a group of friends for a wedding, across 5 rooms the experience was all identical:n- The furniture and rooms are pooly maintained, wood veneers peeling off, dusty, etcn- The previously free minibar is now even more overpriced than usual $10.50 for 150g of peanuts for examplen- The tap fell off repeatedly in the showern- The shower has a shelf, that is angled forward so far that any bottles will slide right offn- The blackout blinds are in 2 pieces with a large gap, and several inches off the window so they don't block out anythingn- The staff were short, rude and unhelpful mostlyn- When going to get a late-ish breakfast 10am we were offered the buffet for $35, we ordered the accompanying egg and coffee, then when we turned around the buffet was gone. Apparently they started packing up the buffet 20 minutes after we arrived and didn't warn us that we should hurry to get the food in time. They also forgot to make our coffees.n- The room service is very overpriced, $30 plus a $5 room service fee for some guacamole about 1 avocado worth and half a packet of store bought corn chips, at least the guacamole was decentn- The area is just far enough outside the CBD you'll be paying $30 for an uber to get in there, or walking quite a distance; alternatively the bus out the front was okn- There's really not much near the hotel, it's in a little dead zone just near the inner city
