We’ve stayed at Meriton in other cities and always had great experiences, but this was our first time in Sydney — and unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. We stayed for a late anniversary and arrived late in the evening. Check-in was easy, and we appreciated the lovely handwritten note and bottle of wine left in our room. However, things went downhill from there.nnWe quickly noticed several hairs in the shower and bathroom, which was quite unpleasant. In the bedroom, there were also hairs on the pillows and stains on the bed. When we reported this, the staff member at reception seemed indifferent and offered us another room on a lower level for the night, with a move back the next day once the first room was cleaned.nnTo our dismay, the second room had similar issues — hairs on the floor and stained sheets. We went back again, and this time were offered an upgraded room, which was better. Still, the general cleanliness and maintenance of all rooms were far below what we expected for the price. The bathrooms looked neglected, the couches were stained, the iron stained a shirt, and both the dishwasher and washing machine smelled unpleasant and seemed unserviced.nnOn top of this, our check out was at 11am. At 10.10, we received a call into our room asking when we would be checking out. We felt rushed to leave the room, and when we left it 10 minutes later, the cleaning lady was already at our door.nnOverall, this stay left us quite disappointed and hesitant to book with Meriton again.
We booked a room for eight nights. The hotel is perfectly located, with plenty of shopping and dining options nearby, and convenient access to Circular Quay, Central Station, and the airport. The room was spacious and clean, with everything we needed, including a washing machine, dryer, microwave, and refrigerator. We stayed in a high-rise unit at the end of the corridor, facing north, and enjoyed a sunset view from our balcony. The sunrise, however, was obscured by the nearby buildings.
Rooms are a bit outdated and vents look like they haven't been cleaned for months unfortunately.nnLocation is great. Accessible to the main spots around SydneynnSeemed to be more like a 3.5 compared to what's advertisednnThere are better Meriton accommodation around the city def
While this hotel advertises itself as a 5 star hotel, the experience we had certainly makes us second guess those stars. We stayed at this hotel for 10 days and found numerous issues with our room and the front desk.nnThe bathrooms have multiple issues with them that can be seen from the images below. The bathroom fan was barely hanging on, as for the shower handle. In the shower itself there was a bullet sized hole in the tile that was poorly fixed. The shower itself was awfully designed as the water would barely flow towards the drain and leak through the door, flooding the bathroom floor. The bathroom sink had multiple cracks in it that was again poorly fixed and affixed to the wall with only a thin strip of caulk, meaning if you accidentally put any weight on it you were at risk of breaking the sink. The window in the room doesn’t close fully due to the age and accumulation of grime that has warped it. As a result the room would get very cold at night and you could hear all the loud city sounds at night, making it hard to sleep. The kitchen was grimy, floor was stained and the kitchen fridge looked like it went through a war, inside and out. The few times that housekeeping was supposed to come up to clean the room, they never arrived, and when we asked them to come clean, they would forget to top off the amenities towels, soap. We would have to call to get the amenities multiple times as they couldn’t remember to bring the few items we asked of them.nnAll in all, the hotel may be in a good spot, close to the transit system, the way they display their rooms is reminiscent of a motel. Wont be staying here again. Don’t let the 5 star rating fool you. My only regret is that I didn’t take more pictures of the pitiful rooms to post here.
This place is awesome! Alt suite fridge, city view and service is great. Front desk was lovely, and we got a nice warm welcome for a birthday stay. We want to come back!
