I have generally stayed at Meriton for many years when visiting Sydney, but my recent five-day stay was extremely disappointing and certainly not worth the $2,500 I paid.nnHousekeeping only attended once and that was only after I specifically requested it at the end of day two. Reception even asked me what time I preferred the room to be cleaned, and I clearly emphasised the afternoon. They confirmed it would be done between 12pm and 4pm the next day. Yet the very next morning housekeeping arrived at 8:45am while I was still asleep and proceeded to tidy the room around me. My bed was not made a single time during the entire stay.nnThe room was also missing a basic item: a luggage rack. I asked for one, but it never arrived. I had to ask again the next day, and only then was it finally left at my door.nnI also ran out of coffee pods and had to go down to reception myself to get more because they were never restocked.nnFor the price paid, this was nowhere near the standard Meriton used to deliver. It really felt like maximum fee for minimum service.
The apartment hotel was in an excellent location. Close to attractions, dining, shops, and transit. A very walkable area. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. Our Studio suite was very spacious with a medium firm bed. The room included a safe which was nice to have. There were no available plugs next to the bed for our devices so we had to charge them across the room. The shower stall was the only letdown. There was black mold on some of the grout where it meets the floor. We called the front desk and they sent housekeeping up to clean the stall. But there was little improvement. The shower stall needs to be redone.
We’ve stayed at Meriton in other cities and always had great experiences, but this was our first time in Sydney — and unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. We stayed for a late anniversary and arrived late in the evening. Check-in was easy, and we appreciated the lovely handwritten note and bottle of wine left in our room. However, things went downhill from there.nnWe quickly noticed several hairs in the shower and bathroom, which was quite unpleasant. In the bedroom, there were also hairs on the pillows and stains on the bed. When we reported this, the staff member at reception seemed indifferent and offered us another room on a lower level for the night, with a move back the next day once the first room was cleaned.nnTo our dismay, the second room had similar issues — hairs on the floor and stained sheets. We went back again, and this time were offered an upgraded room, which was better. Still, the general cleanliness and maintenance of all rooms were far below what we expected for the price. The bathrooms looked neglected, the couches were stained, the iron stained a shirt, and both the dishwasher and washing machine smelled unpleasant and seemed unserviced.nnOn top of this, our check out was at 11am. At 10.10, we received a call into our room asking when we would be checking out. We felt rushed to leave the room, and when we left it 10 minutes later, the cleaning lady was already at our door.nnOverall, this stay left us quite disappointed and hesitant to book with Meriton again.
We booked a room for eight nights. The hotel is perfectly located, with plenty of shopping and dining options nearby, and convenient access to Circular Quay, Central Station, and the airport. The room was spacious and clean, with everything we needed, including a washing machine, dryer, microwave, and refrigerator. We stayed in a high-rise unit at the end of the corridor, facing north, and enjoyed a sunset view from our balcony. The sunrise, however, was obscured by the nearby buildings.
Great location. Excellent rooms. Very nice views.nThe only downside is the elevator situation.nNeed to scan card to go up, but doesn’t take into account groups. Also takes ages, so there ends up being 50 people waiting for one elevator.
