Melbourne Museum

The Melbourne Museum is fairly new. It was designed by Denton Corker Marshall, and opened in the Carlton Gardens in 2000. Its contemporary design takes a number of references from the Royal Exhibition Building including the axial composition of its three distinctive roof canopies. With the number of exhibits and interactive displays, and the amazing indoor children's play area, you can pretty well spend all day here and in fact, a day may not be enough to see it all. It truly is an amazing museum and well worth the entry fee. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The Melbourne Museum is highly recommended for young and old.

My partner and I took our daughter while we were in Melbourne for her first Xmas visiting family, she was 8 months old at the time. We absolutely loved it and spent hours (pretty much all day) there. They have a new kids area and its just awesome. I recommend anyone with children aged 6 months-12 years would have an absolute ball in this area. Not only that but that is just a small section of the museum. There is so much to see and you could spend hours walking around and learning new things. I advise anyone heading to Melbourne, or who even live in Melbourne, to head over! Price is great, free for children and commission/pensioner , adults $14 :)

I love history so thoroughly enjoyed this place. There was a special display of wildlife photography on the second floor which was very nice. The third floor is the main exhibits. There are many interactive displays and all are very well done. It was interesting to see all the First Nations info. There was so much more than I knew about. If you want to know more about BC, this is the place to go.

Love all the exhibitions and displays. Always a great visit and school kids are free, so families should take advantage of that and allow their kids to expand their knowledge of the world. Walk through the forest, marvel at the bug collection and gain insight into the first Australians. A very magical place.

Museum was OK with lot of historical and cultural artifacts. Good learning for kids. But my view of museum is different from what I saw. Each artifact should tell a story which can go back to centuries. However, most of the artifacts were mere replica and some were fancy stuffs of modern ages. Not much to see apart from replicas before 17th century.
