Reviews
From the moment I arrived, the warmth and friendliness of the staff set the tone for a truly memorable stay. Mel at reception was welcoming and helpful, Lawrence at the bar was fantastic, and Haumi and Tawera in the restaurant went above and beyond. Their genuine care and attentiveness created such a relaxed, positive atmosphere throughout the hotel.nnThe food deserves a special mention. The restaurant was absolutely exquisite, both the regular menu and the Christmas buffet were outstanding. Everything was beautifully prepared, generous, and genuinely delicious, making dining there something I looked forward to each day.nnThe rooms were comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully appointed, with stunning views over Lake Rotorua that were a joy to wake up to. The hotel is also perfectly located directly across the road from the Polynesian Spa, which made it incredibly easy to enjoy some deep relaxation during the stay.nnI also really appreciated how quiet and peaceful the hotel felt, while still being family friendly. It struck a rare balance where families were well catered for without it ever feeling noisy or disruptive. The amenities and service were excellent throughout.nnThis stay exceeded my expectations in every way, and I already know this will be a place I return to regularly. Sudima Lake Rotorua has earned a special place on my list of favourite places to stay.
This hotel provided both a comfortable and convenient stay for our family of 4 2 adults and 2 children.nnI will now list some pros and cons during our 3 night stay.nnPros:n- The breakfast buffet had divine pastries! A large assortment of classic breakfast items eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, cereals, etc. were stored in large heated containers, seasoned and cooked to the highest quality. Their creamy mushrooms stood out particularly to me so, give it a try!n- The hotel beds and sheets did not smell like cleaning detergent or a million different perfumes, it also lacked that typical unpleasant hotel smell. The pillows were a joy to behold after a long day of travelling, and the blankets feel like home.n- The location of the hotel is only around 5-10 minutes away from nearby shops walking speed, check out the Polynesian spa nearby!n- Nearby lake offers gorgeous views and a large playground.n- I would consider it on the more affordable side, with a classic twin two queen sized beds being under $200 a night.nnCons:n- The rotten egg smell is stronger since it's near geothermal hot springs.n- Breakfast ends at 9 am n- THE SHOWERHEAD CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. This was a huge downside and made washing difficult.n- Cars occasionally drive into the parking lot at night, which may disturb sleep if you booked a room near the lot.n- No hairdryer.nnOverall, the stay here was pleasant and fun. We visited the skyline, hot springs, and Huka falls.
Nice lobby with lots of seats and good views from the lobby of the water. Breakfast Is basic and staff continuously keeps the area clean.nnBut rooms are very ordinary holiday inn of USA as compared to all other Sudima hotels, this is the oldest in the chain according to the manager and it shows. Smells of sulphur nearby, staff is curt but of no help. Avoid the Manager Andriyani Mulia, probably unhappy with the job and that becomes apparent during check in.nnNo elevators for the second floor! Ugh, imagine carrying suitcases up by yourself. Shower is from the 80s, feels like millions of piercing needles and goes hot and cold like a wave continuously. If you are over 5’6”, you cannot get under the shower. This hotel needs serious upgrades.nnWon’t be returning to this hotel, as there are many other options nearby.nnDo yourself a favor and book other nearby hotels, which are much nicer at a better price.
It is the breakfast that ruins all and is reason for me not to return, it was reticulous. Hush brownies, beens, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and bacon.nSome serials, some yogurts.nNo cold cuts like salami or ham, no cheese, no fresh fruits to be used for the yogurt, no vegetables, no chocolate creme for the pancakes...nI suggest to everyone to not spend any money on the hotel breakfast but go out to cafeterias nearby.nnLocation goodnRooms old, bath tup with a shower head fixed at about 170hight, single glazing meaning no sound protection, the room in second floor with no elevator making it an effort to move the bags to the room...
We had a lovely stay and staff were very friendly and responsive when I needed to change my room to two double beds. The location of the Sudima is a big plus right in the heart of Rotorua township. What happened to the hot pools? Appreciate your comprehensive reply to my review. I will be back to stay again in 2026. Thank you
