ibis Rotorua

Great location and room was comfortable and clean. Very basic and a bit too expensive due to the ultra-marathon happening in the weekend. Had an issue with a whistling sound under the front door caused by air conditioning in the hallway. This was resolved very kindly, by staff by putting a towel at the base of the door. However there should be a more permanent fix put in place in the future.

Arrived at 5pm to check in check in is 2pm and was told room was not ready due to being full house previous night and housekeeping had not finished. I said I could go have some dinner and be back by 7/8pm, they said ‘hopefully the room will be ready by then’ huh?! Got in around 7.30pm, toilet runs constantly after flushing, floor stained, no hand towel, room smelled of bleach, shower went from normal temp to cold to extremely hot without touching it. Had paid extra for a lake view which I did not see on arrival bc it was dark due to room not being ready - morning view was of a car park and buildings, literally zero lake view from the bed, could see the lake over carpark and buildings if standing at window and looking out at opposite direction to the way the room was set up. To top it off when I went to make a coffee in the morning the coffee station in my room had not been refreshed during housekeeping - I called reception who said I would have to come down if I wanted some. So much for a relaxing start to my day. They did offer me breakfast but I looked at the buffet and was not keen on eating anything there as there were children breathing all over the open food. Don’t waste your time or money staying here. 0/10 would not stay again. Very disappointing. No effort was made to appease any of this. I would expect more from Accor.

Requested a room with a view, so beautiful! see photo Very comfortable bed. Loved the breakfast food and restaurant area was good. We enjoyed walks along the lakefront boardwalk and through the gardens. Lots of car parking and rooms are good, modern light fittings, good TV selection and staff were friendly. Bathroom was smaller than expected and could do with some updating but all good. No complaints.

The only thing to taint our first holiday in Rotorua was our stay at the Ibis Hotel. Check in is listed from 2 pm but when we arrived at 3 our room wasn't ready. It was suggested that we go away and come back later to give them time to make up the room, which we were told would be given priority. From rather number of Travellers waiting it was clear that we weren't the only ones being fed that line. We left and returned at 5 giving what we felt was a generous 2 hours for the problem to be rectified. On our return we were told that the room was still not ready and it was suggested that we go and come back again. We advised that we had already done that and had a booking that we needed to get changed for and he did finally prioritize us getting a room. The room was smaller than expected, but we accepted that. Unfortunately there were more issues. A card was in the room showing a Chrome Cast for watching our programmer was available, it wasn't so we attempted multiple times to call guest services but was unable to get through that night or the next morning, the lock in the toilet door was broken and the toilet is dripping into the pan. We wenf down to reception and reported the issues and the phone issue was sorted but nothing else. The booking made a big deal of the mini bar being extra, there is a fridge but it was empty? The only positive I have is that the bedding was clean and the bed is comfortable. There are great things to see and do in Rotorua, the Ibis isn't one of them.

The airconditioner was squeaky and disturbed our sleep and enjoyment of the room. It also didn't properly cool the room. A technician attended twice to fix the issue but it recurred again. For two out of four nights we had no hot water in the morning. We were moved to another room with working air conditioner after two nights. The staff were helpful but the facilities were lacking. I would not recommend.nThe location is good near to the lake, parks and eat street.
