Great restaurant. I can’t speak more highly of this place.nService is attentive, professional and unpretentious. Never feel rushed, but also never wait long for the next course.n3 or 5 course options. I have had both on various occasions and not left hungry ever!nOutstanding food. Menu changes often as we’ve never had the same dish twice. Optional cheese course seems like a thing which I always get, because why choose between a cheese course or sweet dessert if you don’t have too!nFood is modern in execution and classic flavour combinations. Menus are always nicely balanced.nMenu prices are very competitive. You know how much you’re going to spend before you walk in.nBig fan! If you enjoy fine dining this is a must visit in NZ for me.
I have no idea what just happened.nnI arrived hungry, and left feeling full and emotionally overwhelmed. In the 37 years I have lived on this planet, this is the only restaurant that has made me cry tears of joy. My eyes are literally welling up with tears as I write this review.nnAnd yet, we came to visit this restaurant completely by chance. I was sitting in a campervan, in a nearby campsite, looking for a nearby restaurant within 1-2km. And this absolute diamond of am establishment showed up on Google maps.nnFrom the reviews it looked good. Locally-sourced seasonal menu, check. Nicely presented food, check. I booked a table online, expecting it would most likely be fully booked. Somehow the stars aligned, and they had a table available for dinner the same evening. Perhaps it helped that we were visiting on a Tuesday at the very end of April.nnIn my opinion the kitchen team are literally god-tier. The food was interesting, creative, and beautifully presented. The wine pairings were fantastic. The petit fours prepared by their apprentice chef looked like they could have been made by a Swiss master chocolatier.nnAnd it was all served with an honesty and lack of pretentiousness that you would find in a Michelin starred restaurant. The front of house team were excellent and gave a brilliant explanation of the dishes and wine pairings.nnAs a Cambridge UK local, I was bemused to find a book titled Midsummer House on their bookshelf this is my local 2 starred restaurant in Cambridge. In my opinion this restaurant is on par with Midsummer House but for about half the price.nnUnfortunately this restaurant has ruined my life as I am very unlikely to ever have as good of a dining experience again. My only regret is that I was unable to say thank you to the kitchen team, as they had cleaned up and presumably gone home we were one of 3-4 tables that night.nnI suspect that this restaurant is usually fully booked for a couple of months in advance and rightly so. If you are considering this restaurant, stop thinking and book it before the waiting list and price both go up.nnTL;DR Food so good it made me cry with joy!
We experienced the 5 course degustation with wine match. The food was beautifully prepared and presented on the very cool Quirky ceramic plates. The food and wine served were very generous portions. I really didn’t need my cocktail! Highly recommended and worth visiting Taupo for.
The food looked and tasted amazing for the price we paid for! We were seated next to where they prepared the food and the attention to detail was noticeable. The service was also really good with the servers explaining each part of the course menu for us. This was a fine dining experience I won’t forget!
Thank you for an amazing dining experience. We enjoyed cocktails alongside the 5 course set menu to celebrate our 8 year wedding anniversary. This was incredible! The service was equally amazing. Thank you we will be back.
