They have lovely staff, both doctors and nurses. The hospital started to fill up after I was put on a drip so long wait times for those that came in the afternoon. Busiest times are early hours of the morning 1am - 2am and the afternoon.
Couldn’t even give the discharge information even though it was legal. Symptoms dismissed and minimized. Wait time was over 7-8 hours. Nurses said they are occupied and kept offering those waiting pain relief. Inexperienced nurses who are more scared of the legal implications than doing what is right. Better to go private if you can then see this department. It is so disappointing.
Went to Auckland A&E on Sunday afternoon but Nurse informed there were only two doctors working during a day shift and that explained the long waiting time… Can you imagine such a big Auckland Hospital at the Emergency department only two doctors are working to serve the Auckland Region people ? Does this even make sense ? Is this the Health Care service provided by New Zealand Government ? The nurses kept asking all patients to take blood test and in order to drag for another two to four hours because they will tell you to wait for the blood test results so doctors can analyse you. It’s a trick for them to delay your waiting time and give them self a breathing room. I’ve been having severe pain for few days, tried some medicines from Chemist Warehouse but it did not help hence I decided to go Hospital for doctor diagnosis & treatment. The nurses only gave me drowsy pills, paracetamols but I’ve been mentioning the pain’s been hiting me nonstop also the medications were all useless to my conditions. I was feeling sleepy and needed a to lie down to rest and suck in my pain however such a big Hospital does not even have a day bed or rest room for patient like me to lie down even if you request me to wait for long hours. I kept asking the nurse for solution and they felt helpless because only two doctors on duty for the day and this is quite ridiculous. All I need is resting & right treatment, not merely sitting there to wait & suffer for unknown long hours. Ended up I left without being seen by a doctor because the pain is real, the poor service is real. Think twice before visiting Auckland Hospital until they increase number of doctors.
Better stay home and wait for your GP appointment instead of wasting time in here in the hospital. Only they care about priority but doesn’t care if you are in the emergency department for whole night . One of the worst health system in the world . I was here with friend to help him out as he couldn’t drive due neck pain
16 hours wait to see a doctor.nnI've lived in many countries, most of them developing countries, but I've never seen such a badly organised emergency department. Understaffed, 50+ people crammed into a small room, not even a water dispenser, no bar or cafe around after 22:00. And not clear how the queue work. I felt quite discriminated, but I hope to be wrong, cause I was not a resident in NZI paid the bill, as it should be, but around 30 people arrived after me but were served first.. and definitely not all of them were more urgent than me.nnThe way the manage the triage is shocking, you have to tell in front of everyone all your issues and personal problems, but on the form they make you sign all the thing about privacy.nnI don't have anything against the staff, they were nice, I'd strike if I was them in fact they are , it's the management. Disgusted. This should be one of the best hospitals in NZ, instead is a total chaos. Private health is eating public one.
