Reviews
I don't usually write reviews but I will today. I stayed at this motel as my conference was being held here. I enjoyed my stay however I have to say that the negative reviews are pretty spot on. The good: very comfortable bed with sparkling white clean sheets. The catering for the conference was very good also. The bad: very crowded, small room for conference with 0.5 m between all the tables in front and behind. The hallways were dark, the furnishings dated, thread bare in places, fabric on restaurant chairs all stained terribly. Pink mould on bathroom tiles, rooms not cleaned well. Paint chipped everywhere. However, it is a good location. I got the impression that the staff try hard. I think the problem is that the motel is old, huge and difficult and expensive to maintain. Avoid the breakfast buffet.
Food is nice but no table service for dinner at the prices you’re charging. Breakfast staff are friendly and busy but time to hire more staff tables are left dirty for ages 30 mins two tables haven’t been cleaned.nnUpgrade of the AC needed loud and not that good. Suites not worth paying price for. Outdated roomsnnSpa bath not fully working out of around 8 seats only two worknnInvest in a toilet brush. Not nice for the cleaners to do the dirty worknnAgain food is nice on the expensive side, bars nice chairs are comfortablennThe rail on each floor is scary low when u have kids
Do not recommend staying here.nChecking in/entrance- probably the only redeeming part of the stay. Nice staff. Nice entrance, albeit several doors out of action during stay.nnRoom- shower had mould and dirty grout, felt like it hadn’t been cleaned properly. Lots of dust in the room and previous visitors crackers/rubbish on floor. Throughout stay the room wasn’t cleaned well, floor not vacuumed. Had to specifically request this. Dirty towels removed and not replaced meaning we had to go to reception to ask for more towels, which took a good 30/45 mins to arrive i understand busy workload, just frustrating when kids exhausted needing shower and bed. Only one bedside table for two double beds! Had to create a makeshift bedside table using the chair.nnLocation- good and able to get places in the CBD easily.nnOverall, for the price you pay, not worth the money.
At first glance, Rydges Canberra seems like a dream come true: a gorgeous lobby, a serene central location, and spacious rooms. But, like a beautifully wrapped gift hiding a brick, the reality is a bit of a shocker.nnLet's start with the bedding. Imagine our surprise when we found bloodstains on the sheets. If this was a crime scene, the only mystery would be why housekeeping ignored our cleaning request entirely. Maybe they were too busy trying to fix the ancient thermostats – because clearly, they weren’t working. Our friends had to summon a space heater from the reception at 3am just to avoid frostbite.nnAnd speaking of unwanted surprises, the nightlight motion sensor had the bright idea of switching on every time we moved in bed. It’s like having a disco in your room, minus the fun. The spa? Mostly non-functional. The sauna? Sporting a gaping hole in the roof, stylishly plugged with paper towels. The gym? A delightful trip back to the 1980s, complete with equipment that looks like it survived the apocalypse.nnSure, the location is great. But unless you fancy living in a DIY repair project, Rydges Canberra might not be worth the Rydges name.
Lost points only for a pretty rubbish shower head, poor pressure and spraying everywhere. The hotel is getting on but has been updated in all the important areas. Nice comfortable beds and an excellent feed in the restaurant...
