Day Surgery Unit - patients have to complete a lengthy online form before they go to the hospital. My form was only partially saved so I had to give much of the information again when I arrived. Technology glitch? - there is a $25 compulsory incidentals charge required when one checks in to the Day Care unit. - there is little communication with patients once they arrive. I waited four hours in three different areas before I had surgery. My surgery time changed from 2PM to 4PM to 6PM and eventually about 5.30PM. I arrived at the hospital at 1.30PM. - if you are staying overnight, make sure the hospital staff hand on your meal menu for the next day before 3.30PM. After that time, no breakfast menus are taken for the following morning. I completed a form for meals well before 2.00PM but because of the long wait to move into the preparation room (when the form is taken by a nurse), my form missed the cutoff. The generic breakfast given to patients if their breakfast order is not accepted is one piece of white toast and two Weetbix. Not sufficient when one has fasted. If you need specific food for breakfast because of diet or allergies, this generic meal might not be the best for you. - take some food with you because all you will be offered when you come out of surgery is two small cellophane packets of biscuits and a cup of tea. I had not eaten for 12 hours and needed something more substantial at 7.30PM. Patients are given one small bottle of water which is meant to keep one going until breakfast. - there were no towels in my room but a packet of personal wipes were on the breakfast tray. I presumed these were instead of taking a shower. The guy who brings tea/coffee around before breakfast kindly found a towel for me from somewhere so I could take a shower before I was discharged. - this is my first time as a Day Surgery patient at Hollywood. I am not keen to return after experiencing Day Surgeries in other hospitals.

My husband has had 3 admissions here. The first was fantastic. The second and third he received a very poor standard of care. The nurses did not attend the call bells promptly (the most recent was waiting 40 minutes) after he had a problem in the shower. The nurses did not attend to him. They did not listen to what he had to say or his requests. They provided subjective and not objective nursing care. They offered him the PRN pain relief medication that was not effective despite him saying he needed the other alternative. Once when he pushed the call bell the nurse arrived after approximately 10 minutes with ‘you called. What do you want?’ Not once did he receive his actual ordered menu this most recent admission. Last admission he received it only once. The Medical Resident left him with 1g of Panadol after having a total hip replacement with serious complications instead of the pain relief he was on prior to urgent readmission. Thankfully the Registrar came in the following day to correct that. When in ICU he was offered a pillow to put under his leg as though that would be effective for post surgical complication pain. Last admission I remember he was in excruciating and unbearable agony and after finally being forceful they called the doctor who wrote him up for pain relief. It still took them 90 minutes to get it to him. I am not writing this as a lay person but as a Clinical Nurse myself and my husband is too.we have both found that from a professional and clinical standard this treatment is unacceptable and would not recommend this hospital.

Horrible place, like the state asylum in an old film. The nurses are the worst I’ve experienced and have visited mum in many place, especially Anna. Was validated when at my local IGA on way home and the girl on the tillsaid her mother was there last year and the nurses where “unbelievably rude and cold and awful “ How can anyone get we’ll when the nurses all have UGLY spots where their personalities are meant to be. Shame on you Hollywood, the head of nursing should be sacked. Starting a Facebook page ‘Victims of the Hollywood Nurses. Justin Kriz

Never go there: rude and unprofessional nurses not showing any care for patients at their premises. Disgraceful!
