The nursing staff at this hospital are absolutely fantastic! Very compassionate and always actively offering to help with everything and anything. They definitely made my stay at this hospital as easy and comfortable as possible.nnBeing able to order freshly cooked food directly to your bed via phone is also a very convenient way with a large variety for different dietary requirements.nnI've also received excellent care prior to my surgery from my neurosurgeon and aneathatist who is a very funny and easy to talk to guy. He explained every drug he is using and their effects before going into surgery.nnIve deducted one star as I was seen by 2 doctors and a pharmacist all individually at my bedside after surgery telling me conflicting information of what the other person had told me before so this caused some confusion.nnBut by and large, I would happily be treated there again!
I have provided written feedback about my experience, but it seemed not valid to have it followed up by the relevant channels.nI gave birth in October, and received excellent care by my obstetrician and her team. The postpartum care was dismal to say the least. Immediately after giving birth I was put in charge of documenting all newborn cares, as well as my own output. Despite large voids, there was no concern for bladder stretch injuries or care. Furthermore, I am surprised that patients are paying for doing their own care. Fundal checks were often omitted or missed, resulting in retained products and an infection, that I picked up the afternoon after being discharged. The ward failed to communicate this to my covering team, resulting in a 2 day delay in treatment. I requested to see a lactation consultant on day 2 for support, which was delayed causing significant and ongoing trauma- hindering our feeding journey. There was little “care” provided by the midwives who often did not introduce themselves or hand over at the bedside despite signage indicating otherwise. In addition, the facilities are extremely dated- particularly given I was told in 2022 when I had my first born that they would be updated… SJOG Subiaco is happy to take payment, but are unable to provide safe care for postpartum women.
Our experience at SJOG Subiaco following my wife’s caesarean was deeply disappointing and fell well short of the hospital’s stated values of compassion, dignity and excellence.nnWe were placed in Ward 53, where the rooms were extremely small and uncomfortably hot. We were informed by a midwife after admission that the air-conditioning had been broken for days, yet no effective solution was offered. Despite raising concerns about the wellbeing of my post-operative wife and our newborn, staff showed little flexibility or urgency. We were told the ward was “completely full” and no alternatives were available, leaving us to keep the door open just to get some airflow — at the cost of privacy and peace.nnThe lack of empathy by the duty coordinator, June, was confronting. Feedback about the heat was dismissed rather than addressed, which is unacceptable in a postnatal ward caring for recovering mothers and babies. After complaining, we were given a cheap noisy portable fan to blow the hot air around the room. and creating a tripping hazard.nnWe were also given misinformation prior to ward admission, adding unnecessary stress at an already overwhelming time. On top of that, room service errors occurred daily, requiring repeated follow-ups for basic needs.nnOne of the most inappropriate moments came just hours after my wife’s C-section, when a staff member from accounts payable entered our room with an EFTPOS machine and insisted we pay a $750 excess on the spot. This was intrusive, poorly timed, and entirely unnecessary — an emailed invoice would have been far more appropriate than being confronted with payment demands on Day 1 post-surgery.nnVisitor access was also problematic. After-hours visitor parking was inaccessible, forcing us to park at the 25 McCourt Street entrance. Security access was unreliable, with long waits for calls to be answered just to get in or out, adding further frustration and fatigue.nnThis stay added stress at a time that should have been focused on recovery, bonding, and care. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect the standards SJOG promotes, and we would think very carefully before choosing this hospital again.
Writing this review is difficult, especially amid the many glowing recommendations for Dr. Meharry. However, I feel compelled to share my experience because I know there are others—like me—who have been harmed by her approach to care.nnAt first glance, Dr. Meharry presents as polished and competent, but beneath the surface, there are significant issues that deeply affect her ability to provide trauma-informed, respectful, and unbiased care. I had exceptional obstetricians for my three pregnancies before this pregnancy, however I switched to Dr Meharry as I was looking especially for an obstetrician who was experienced with patients who were autistic and who had PTSD and comorbidities.nnThrough now speaking with other patients, I have learned that Dr. Meharry has treated many people in similarly harmful ways. Former colleagues have also shared that Dr Meharry struggled to even work alongside midwives in her own practice, as she insists on controlling the narrative at all costs.nnIf you asked questions, expressed a difference of opinion, or advocated for yourself in any way, she would gaslight you—dismissing concerns, manipulating conversations, and making you feel as though you were in the wrong. For pregnant individuals—who are already in an incredibly vulnerable position—this kind of treatment is unacceptable.nnI can confidently say that Dr. Meharry is the worst medical professional I have ever encountered, both professionally and personally. Her polished exterior does not reflect her actual care. Fortunately, I found another exceptional obstetrician late in my pregnancy, and I am now holding my beautiful newborn, exceptionally grateful that I was able to change providers.nnI share this review not out of malice, but out of responsibility—to ensure that others seeking care have the full picture. Dr. Meharry is not as competent or compassionate as she may appear, and I urge those considering her to approach with caution. There are several of us out there who have unfortunately had this experience or similar with Dr Meharry and we all deserve better.
Had such a good experience today for my day procedure in the endoscopy unit. The gastroenterologist and anaesthetist were both very kind, comforting and made me feel more relaxed about the procedure. The nurses were also very helpful and accommodating and the whole process was incredibly efficient given how many patients were being seen. I am really grateful to the team for their professional care and support.
