The Avonhead Tavern and One Good Horse Restaurant

Our dinner spot after a long flight and journey to Christchurch, and was satisfied with the food served - though i did catch a hive after having fish and chips, more on that later nn the ambience was really great once you enter the bar/restaurant, with lots of sports channel playing and some light music as well - it’s also free sitting so we went and pick a table to our liking, with seemingly locals claiming most tables around the barnn the spicy chicken pizza was huge in portion, chicken was the most tender one on a pizza we have had, and the cheese was in abundance toonn fish and chips were really great as well, huge portion once again, with lots of chips to go with - it did give me an episode of hives after the meal, having had fish allergies from time to time for awhile now..nnGood vibes and food for the price point 60 NZD, definitely will return if i’m in the area.

The place is spacious with plenty of room, and parking is super easy. I also love that it stays open late. I happened to try their Thursday special — a $35 ribeye steak — and it was amazing. The steak was huge, cooked medium just as I ordered. The outside had a nice char, but the inside was tender and flavorful. I asked for the chips to be crispy, and they came out perfectly crunchy and delicious. I definitely want to go back and have it again!

An absolute must-visit! The food is simply superb, with standout dishes like the lamb shank, tender and full of rich flavor, the perfectly crisp squid, and the irresistibly crispy pork bites. Every bite is a delight!

Nice ambience. Game night so there were quite a number of people there to watch the match. We ordered our drinks but they took a long time to come and no one came to take our order for the food. When the waitress realized she was very apologetic, quickly got us our drinks and took our food order. The garlic bread was served quickly. Our mains came in good time. Taste wise the garlic bread and chowder are good. Find the pork ribs average and will not order that again in future.

It was a great burger; the cauliflower was salty, and the chicken parmigiana and salad were okay. I hope they have condiments available, or maybe I didn't see them lol
