Middlemore Hospital is the closest hospital to our neighbourhood.nnAs my husband always says to me, Middlemore Hospital was always named as “Muddlemore Hospital”. That means lots of people have been complaining about the unhygienic conditions, poor services, extremely long waiting hours, etc etc.nnAfter reading so many google reviews, I have decided to write a fair and balanced review so that people can get a clearer picture about Middlemore Hospital. Then they can decide whether they still want to get medical care or advice from the medical staff there or not.nnIn November 2023, my husband went to Middlemore Hospital late at night. He suffered from serious pneumonia and was referred to Middlemore Hospital by a very good lady Korean doctor at East Care Urgent Care, A&E Department.nnUpon arrival, as expected, there were at least 30 to 40 patients waiting at the Emergency Ward of the hospital and at least 10 patients were queuing up for registration at the front counter. As my husband couldn’t walk properly due to short of breath, a very young male staff who has just come from Portugal to work here in New Zealand arranged a wheelchair for my husband. At the meantime, I had to help him with registration procedures etc etc.nnAs my husband’s oxygen level was so low that he should be treated urgently, a lady nurse pushed his wheelchair to Harley Gray Building. We waited for around 90 minutes and then two lady nurses prepared a hospital bed for him. The nurses said that there’s a shortage of beds due to the peak of COVID and pneumonia at that time. A very young male doctor came and did medical check up for my husband and advised us that my husband had to transfer to the Scott Building immediately.nnAfter waiting for around 4 hours, my husband was taken to Ward 7 on the 3rd floor of Scott Building. Thereafter, he stayed at the hospital for 4 days. My husband was very delighted about the great medical services provided by Dr. Rosie Isaacs and Dr. Stephanie Tan. Not only were these lady doctors professional, but also they were so patient and cared for my husband’s asthmatic conditions.nnAs for the three meals provided by the hospital, my husband was satisfied with the quality of food. As he is a vegetarian, he still could enjoy great food like sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, etc. He was also very happy about having a cup of hot coffee and tea every day.nnOn the day that my husband was discharged from the hospital, a very friendly and helpful male staff pushed my husband’s wheelchair all the way from Scott Building to the car park near Emergency Department of the hospital.nnOn the way home, my husband shared his experience about his stay at Middlemore Hospital with me. He said that despite so many bad experiences and reviews on Google, he could still experience a very pleasant and professional medical treatment from the lady doctors, lady nurses and the male staff who helped him at the check out department of the hospital.nnOn top of that, my husband was so surprised that he was given a lovely birthday gift on the car on the way back home. Upon his arrival at home, he was so excited to see the cute decorations for his birthday at our front lawn.nnAll in all, my husband would like to thank all the medical staff who took care of him very well during his stay at Middlemore Hospital. He never calls it Myddlemore Hospital anymore.nnWe sincerely hope that whatever medical treatments you are going to have at Middlemore Hospital, you will get even better experiences than my husband.
I recently spent 4 days in PSU after hand surgery. I can't praise the staff enough. The nurses were professional, friendly, caring and attentive. Doctors from Plastics were informative and watchful. Thank you to everyone.nOnly criticism visiting hours end at 8pm, but many visitors were still arriving/staying much later! Noisy. Please throw them out at 8pm.
I think there is just the scam going on in the name of medical system. We are here with a baby who is 10 months old and we are waiting here in the room after the nurse checkup and we are told there is no doctor in the hospital so waiting hours is at least 4 hours because they will come up in the morning. Seriously? No doctors available and why it is called as emergency department and no doctor available for the kids. I feel sorry for 4 other families waiting for the doctors like us. Its just people giggling here and there in the hospital on the tax payers money. I think there is no1 doing any check about the medical system. There were times when everyone respected medical system, but now they have learned to muck around and closed their eyes on suffering people.nnStill waiting for the doctor. They should remove the term emergency from them. If they don’t have resources to heal people.
Excellent staff at emergency the night I was brought in. Sunday 14th July 2024. I was in so much pain and every single person I came across was just amazing. From the initial assessing nurse to the two doctors who saw me moments later in ED worked so promptly after tests and bloods taken. I was sent to surgical assessment where I was so well taken care of, the nurses were kind and compassionate. They offered me pain relief to help me get some rest whilst awaiting for surgical doctors to come check on me.nnSurgical doctors were thorough with explaining procedures. Down to earth incredibly considerate of how I was feeling. When I was later wheeled to a ward, an awesome orderly worker eased my mind off the fear of what is before me. I felt so comfortable in the Gynaecare Unit.. I am well looked after here. The nurses are second to none. They are generous with time and have built rapport easily with them.nMy surgery team were fantastic. I had a Fijian brother as a nurse who was able to help me stop the water works as he explained what was to occur. He let in a few funny jokes which helped me push those fears further away. Something about anesthetic that really gets the nerves twisted. Lol. The team were awesome. I was wheeled in 8.30am and woke up 10.30am. Drugged and unable to speak but felt no pain. I am so grateful for everyone in that surgery room. Thank you so much. This trip to the hospital has indeed opened my eyes to what is important. Thank you heroes!nnBack now in my awesome ward. The nurses continue to check up regularly. So kind they even allowed me to wait for my daughter who delivered a charger for me. Of all hospitals I've ever been in... Middlemore Hospital staff are the best. They do their jobs well, they are proud of their professions & I believe their actions speak volumes for the city they serve! Proud to be a South Aucklander today.
Our 4 month old had his cleft surgery. We've been looked after so well by the staff in the Kidz First ward. Incredible specialists across the range. The facilities are fairly aged however maintained reasonably and generous: we were given a private room with an ensuite toilet, TV, and bed. Decent food options within the building.
