Stayed here for a week and booked at the lowest possible rate so was not expecting 5 star facilities. The hotel is well kept, clean and organized. When I booked in reception reminded me that I wouldn't have housekeeping as I booked a cheaper rate which was fine by me. However, when I returned to my room one afternoon I found that housekeeping had been in my room and cleaned. Which is nice, but I would have appreciated for this to then be communicated. The room is really very small and I had many of my personal belongings all over the place and I would have wanted to leave my room tidier for room cleaning to make their lives easier, but also to be more presentable. It felt like I was caught off guard. I was working quite late in the evenings and when I got to the hotel a mere 5 minutes before the kitchen closed, they didn't even offer me any of the "midnight menu" and showed me away and taking a room service order literally seconds after I turned around to walk away. So maybe not the best place for dinner. But the location is ideal and there are lots of other places nearby. Overall a nice stay.
Location for the hotel is great, just slightly off the main but everything is within walking distance. Rooms are nicely designed. Staff at reception are professional but thought will be nicer if they are a little more warm. As we had a good amount of warm hospitality in our 3 weeks in NZ. The staff here did their job good and well but just thought smiles and warmth will be a great addition.
Room is very small with extremely terrible smell.. Mattress is old with huge sunken spot and does not provide proper support. However, location is near Central. About 3-5 mins walk to Fresh choice city market and bus interchange. But I wouldn't like to stay here again despite it being close to facilities.. Maybe it's just my luck for getting bad room.
Two of us stayed for work. I had a larger room with a queen bed and bunk beds so got one if the larger rooms. My travelling partner got one of the small rooms. For me, it was a good size, very clean and the shower was perfect pressure. Lots of tea and coffee in the room. Location was five minutes walk from my head office so great location. Car park was full so used the hotel car park directly across the road. Close to lots of restaurants in walking distance. Staff are friendly. Gym was good compared to many. Lots of dumbbells and cardio machines. Just need to fix the tv in the gym. It kept saying no signal. One star off for the lack of good movie channels in the room. Lots of news and sports and free to air. Would stay again for work.
Modest but nice hotel in easy walking distance to downtown Christchurch. Rooms are small but clean and well appointed. The dining area and bar were very nice and convenient. Breakfast buffet was very good. Lots of shopping and dining within a few blocks. Great value. Rooms: Rooms are small, modest, neat and contemporary. Walkability: Just a few blocks from all that downtown Christchurch has to offer.
Not sure if it was just my room but the back wall sounded like it was made of paper as i could hear my neighbors conversations and shower fan, also the room had a consistent light breeze overall felt like a room in a hostel. Wifi was also very slow. Good location and friendly staff, though.Rooms: 2/5
We stayed here in a twin room on Saturday night. Hotel is cool and has a great vibe. Reception staff are helpful, as are the housekeeping team. We requested a replacement bed cover due to a stain and they sorted that almost immediately. One of our side tables was not actually screwed into the wall which meant it fell over too easily given it has only a single leg, perhaps a little more attention to detail is needed there. Room was generally good and well equipped. Attended the buffet breakfast where the female staff member was very abrupt and mostly unhelpful, bordering on rude. We felt unwelcome. While we ate breakfast she very loudly chastised the man behind the bar, pointing out the failings of his recent performance review. We were very uncomfortable there and made a hasty retreat. She is a disgraceful employee and made the breakfast a very unpleasant experience as a guest. I intended to book another stay next month but, knowing we'll need to eat breakfast, we'd potentially prefer somewhere else.
Stayed at the hotel twice while travelling to and from Mt Cook. Location wise, you really can’t ask for more, conveniently located. According to locals that I’d spoken to, the area is sadly no longer as happening as it was before the earthquakes as businesses have moved out of the area. But there are still plenty of areas for shopping, food and sight seeing. I enjoyed the rooms which are clean. The City Urban Double is smaller than the City Urban King, but with the beds elevated, you can easily slide luggage under the bed. I’d rather disliked the toilet of the Double as my knee kept hitting the sliding door of the shower I’m 1.78m tall and the door would rattle rather alarmingly. In comparison, the toilet/shower of the King was luxurious, probably the size of some hotels in Tokyo. I just wish that there are instructions on the controls of the bedside console, which includes fancy lighting system that helps you relax and wake up. All you have are pictograms from which you have to figure out what it means and does. On my last night, I had dinner at the hotel’s Cafe and Bar 16. Had a hearty lamb shank and Speight’s off the tap, served by the really friendly staff. Great stay!
Room was clean and well laid out but tiny to the point I was claustrophobic. Room service meals were incredible value and very nice. Parking charged at $19/night, which I was less than impressed with.....Rooms: 2/5
