Story

MODE (previously Blue Sky Rentals) was founded by ex-travellers from New Zealand, for travellers to New Zealand. Having experienced the ups and downs of being a global tourist themselves, they wanted to take the best bits of service from all over the world and offer them with Kiwi flair.
Passionate about travelling our beautiful country, MODE enables access to all corners of New Zealand – not just those hotspots oversaturated by passenger coach tours. For MODE, tourism in New Zealand isn’t about buying sheepskin souvenirs, or toy Kiwis that are made offshore to take back offshore for your friends back home.

It’s not about sucking in and turning sideways to get the hottest bikini pic by the beach for Instagram (although tag us and we won’t complain).

Touring New Zealand is about more than getting your feet wet, it’s about dipping your head under and holding your breath for as long as possible.

It’s about going all in and having an unbridled adventure in what we believe is the most beautifully raw country in the world.

It’s about explorative isolation and self-sufficiency, but it’s also about socializing and having a beer or three.

It’s about feeling the sandy crunch between your teeth when you eat sandwiches on the beach.

It’s about jumping into crystal clear freezing cold fresh water rivers, and drying out lying on smooth warm rocks.

It’s about the hot burning needles you feel when you step on a warm cow poo after running barefoot through the icy wet grass on a frosty morning.

It’s about standing on the side of a mountain looking out at the endless desert scattered with tussock and pock marks and feeling smaller and more insignificant than you’ve ever felt in your life.

It’s about nearly crying every time you turn a corner because you can’t comprehend how it’s possible for a place so stunningly untouched and raw to even exist but you’re so happy it does.

It’s not about sitting on some fancy leather seats in an expensive car pointing a camera through the window. Our vehicles are a vessel and a tool. The campers are a bed, a kitchen, a storage facility and a transport facility. The country is the adventure.
We don’t go all out on the flashiest cars, but we represent the best value for money on the market. The way we see it, you’d rather spend your money experiencing the things our amazing country has to offer, rather than seeing it through the windscreen of the newest poshest model.
Despite this, in the NZ budget campervan market, we also present the newest and most reliable vans. Our vans are newly converted and we’ll keep it that way as well. This means low kms, a new and clean interior, and unbranded vans so you don’t stick out like a sore thumb.
