Had my baby here and I was just shocked at the lack of staff… I went in for induction and got sent home once, called back and then nearly sent home again due to staffing. Was in bed with nothing being started for me for over 24 hours due to staffing. The catchment for Joondalup is just way too huge for it to function effectively have also had numerous horrendous wait times in ED. HOWEVER, the staff I did interact with were fantastic. The anaesthesiologist Chris, I believe? Dr Williams?? acted like a best friend to me during my C section and was an absolute lad. He let me pick a song on his phone for the start of the surgery and now I have a song I love that will always remind me of the birth of my first child. The surgeon, Jacquie? Was also a lovely woman and came and checked up on me next day or later that day and had a little friendly chat with me. All of the midwives were very pleasant, helpful and patient even overnight with me asking them to help me tuck my baby in every time she squirmed out. Wouldn’t wish to have a second baby there still, due to how busy it is :
It’s been said before, simply avoid this place. Appalling to say the very least. Presented to ED with COVID, respiratory distress, and in an overall poor state after having no food or sleep for three days. Before I got out of the car into the wheelchair, I briefed the nurse and begged for immediate attention. My Doctor also called to let them know of my urgent situation - she was told that I would be triaged quickly. I was left in ED for two and a half hours among very young children and the elderly. I did my best to cover myself in a blanket. Two and a half hours without any checks or at least a time frame where I could have sought alternative hospitals. Poor service. It was torture. In the end a family member picked me up and took me elsewhere, with the nurses behind the counter having light hearted chatter watching the poor sick people. You have let a fellow health care worker down. Never again will I go near this place. One star in this case is too generous. And @Ramsay feedback team, don’t bother with the tokenistic response.
Day procedure yesterday . Nurses and specialists were so nice anesthetist too. Only drawback were the long wait for discharge lounge to pick me up. Asked if i could walk myself down But they said No someone has to be with you I sat in the ward for an hour and 20 minutes waiting for them to pick me up . When eventually a nurse took me down Shame because the nurses work so hard . Without having to take people down to departure lounge . I found the staff in this lounge quite rude . Such a shame Otherwise I would have given 5 stars
Once through the ED mess then being admitted via day care which ended up as a 3 day stay the surgical staff could not do enough for me. The best service I have ever received in any hospital, nurses & staff could not do enough to make sure I was well looked after, all via the public system.
Absolutely disgusted in public ED. My mum presented to ED tonight for hypertension stage 2 with extremely high blood pressure and shortness of breath. Her GP advised she is at risk of a heart attack and should be seen as soon as possible. Of course when she presents to ED they don’t even take her blood pressure …just her temperature. No other vitals and sit her next to highly sick coughing patients and vomiting people. My mum is still currently in ED without having her blood pressure taken and is waiting to either catch Covid from the mountain of people in there highly contagious or have a fricken heart attack in the waiting room!!!! What is this?!!?? I understand that patients are triaged due to emergency but from my understanding a suspected heart attack is an emergency. I am now laying in bed heavily pregnant unable to help my mum whose sitting in the waiting room just to have someone at least take her blood pressure. This is horrifying and I cannot believe this is our health system and local hospital. I would much rather move elsewhere just to not be in the catchment of Joondalup public! Please sort this out before someone dies in your waiting room due to your negligence!
It was a most appalling experience attending the emergency department at Joondalup hospital today. I was taken by ambulance there after two serious health episodes at home. Im 88 years old and Waited five hours in the emergency room waiting room complete with many very unwell no doubt contagious patients. When my daughter enquired after six hours how much longer it would be she was told I was still Eleventh in the queue they couldn’t guarantee it would be less than another three hours so we left. I have multiple health issues and waiting on the uncomfortable chairs with no ability to lie down made me extremely distressed. Next time we will be going to private emergency. This is a disgrace and should be addressed as someone will die soon if nothing is done about it.
Had the pleasure of being treated in RACE when i attended Joondalup A&E for excessive back pain. The service was excellent thanks to nurse Navigator Sheila and Dr Poh Chua i was treated and out within 3 hours even though i arrived in the A&E in the middle of the morning rush hour. I would like to congratulate the Hospital for introducing such a new proactive development in patient triage activity. Well done to all
Went in for day surgery after going through the Emergency department and ended up spending a night. They got me in quickly and the service was amazing, from the nurses to doctors and Surgeons everyone was so helpful and informative. Thanks very much to everyone there.
Was horrified by the way my partner and I were treated. I understand COVID regulations, however it caused so much more harm than good. My partner suffered a seizure, in which, as of the time of arrival, had horrible difficulty remembering what had happened to them. I had kept track of all of their symptoms along the way and had explained this upon his entry, however, as they were 18, I wasn't allowed in with them to even explain their symptoms to the nurse checking him in. Because of this, my partner wasn't able to recall exactly what had happened, and after 4 hours was told that they were just dehydrated despite the fact that they had many seizures prior to that, and this was one that needed attention. I had also asked if i could provide them with food and water so they could recover as that always had worked in the past and they were running on nothing due to vomiting during their seizure, I was turned down and told that theyd have to wait until they saw the doctor which at the time, they had already been waiting an hour and a half for. Additionally, despite explaining to the nurses that they needed to take a walk outside quickly due to severe adhd and being sat in the same chair for 2-3 hours alone with no communication or thing to pass the time with, they weren't permitted to leave and threatened to take their spot away from the waiting list. On top of this, whilst waiting outside for them, I had come across a woman who was also denied entry to the hospital despite the fact that her 18 year old son had a heart attack only a few hours before- all because of the same reason: being over 18. You guys are disgusting people, and I hope new management comes in, or it gets shut down entirely.
I was admitted into Joondalup in Sunday 13/08/2022 could not say more about the service. Even though the staff is worked to the bone due to staff shortages, they are amazing. From Drs, nurses and Niel who takes you to radiology department thank you
