This is a unique and brilliantly eccentric experience that I’d recommend. It is like stepping back in time. Lift is 1920s style with a small sliding wooden door and cage maximum of 4 people. Decor is similarly like a Time Machine all polished wood, carpets and black and white tiles. Freemasons were meeting on the 2 floors below us. Building is beautiful. Room was clean and quiet we couldn’t tell if there was anyone on the floor with us, with an enormous bathroom. You need to try this at least once. But don’t expect it to be like staying in a 5 star modern hotel - that isn’t what you are buying here.
This hotel is my 'go to' in Wellington. Great location for meetings with officials or politicians, good price, massive rooms and the best hotel bathroom I've seen outside the Bolton which costs WAY more. Shabby chic and full of character. Comfy beds and reasonable service. Reason they don't get 5 stars on service is the desk being unmanned after 6pm.
Great value for money. Clean comfortable beds. Fantastic staff. Beautiful bathroom with large bath. Windows that open to let in fresh air. It will be fabulous once the bar and dinning areas are open.Rooms: 5/5
had the pleasure of staying this week, always try to stay somewhere different and this is certainly that. Very historic but in need of some work. The room was great and they let me check in early 10 am... unheard of and very much appreciated given I had a pretty full-on day. The hotel was full but we didn't really see anyone else there. Pros: Very historic Looks haunted but guaranteed that it wasn't. Still, super fun to explore the property at night. The rooms are massive we Stay in Freyburg The bathrooms were amazing and the stand-alone bath was very cool The location is very central Very affordable compared to other hotels in the area Cons: Dated and needs work Showers in the morning only had warm water Not enough staff. * this is an issue across NZ with the lack of qualified staff. The staff there were there are super nice Summary: If you want a standard hotel experience this isn't for you. If you want somewhere with loads of history and character and is a little spooky I'd highly recommend it. If you want to host a murder mystery night this would be perfect. I'm sure that once good staff are available this would be a different experience.
Dirty room. TV/AV didn't work with four separate faults. Aggressive, rude, scruffy manager offered $50 refund two days later. I thought it was a joke, but no. This place has really gone down hill. Manager in particular needs to dress like one and act like one. A little bit of PR training would have sorted this out easily. Such a shame.
Great accommodation in a historic building, full of character and charm.. Spacious rooms, well appointed and comfortable. Awesome location and very friendly and helpful staff. Will certainly come back whenever in Wellington.Rooms: 5/5
For the price of this hotel it’s no where near value for money. Little things like tissues, shampoo not in room. For the price I would have expected bath robes The shower is level with the bathroom floor the water leaks out all over making the floor very slippery I fell as didn’t realise the water went under the bathroom door. The receptionist said sorry and would report it !! This is not a new shower I am sure it’s been reported previous. We are traveling NZ been here over 2 weeks by far the worst hotel stayed in. I now have bruises, swollen knee and hand from my fall. The hotel needs to address health and safety for guests. I would not recommend this place
If you are looking for old world charm you can not go past the Wellesley Boutique Hotel. Would definitely come back again.Rooms: 4/5
What an icon for Wellington. Takes you back to how those good old days. Like must have been great. Hardly saw any staff the one young lady we did meet was very busy and polite.Rooms: 5/5
The staff was very friendly and helpful, but the hotel as such feels a bit run down. Boutique-y and old-fashioned, yes, but more the dusty side of old-fashioned. The room had a good size, but the carpet hadn't been cleaned in quite a while, the window didn't close properly and the bathroom could have done with a deep clean, too. The restaurant on the ground floor closes at 6pm and breakfast is not available before 8am, which makes it very obvious that this place doesn't really suit business travelers.
