My over 80-year old grandmother was admitted for 7 days following multiple issues. Specific nurses on call were less than helpful, not giving her the required heart and blood pressure medication she needed, withholding other medication because it 'caused them an inconvenience', and discharging her before she could even walk on her own, with no information provided to her family on how to care for her outside of the hospital. Absolutely disgusted with the lack of care given in every aspect.
We recently had the privilege of experiencing the exceptional care provided by the maternity unit at Waitekere Hospital, particularly in the Arataki section. From the moment we arrived, the reception lady greeted us with warmth and kindness, consistently offering her help throughout our stay. Her friendliness and helpful nature truly set the tone for our positive experience.nnThe midwives were incredibly supportive from the beginning of our journey through to the delivery of our child. Their expertise, patience, and compassion were evident in every interaction, providing us with reassurance and comfort during such a significant time.nnOn the day of delivery, the hospital staff demonstrated remarkable professionalism and care. Special mention must be made of the anesthetist and Specialist Dr. Adele Barr. Dr. Barr’s skills are nothing short of miraculous. She handled the C-section operation with such precision and care that my wife felt completely at ease. Her ability to deliver our baby safely, without any complications to both mother and child, showcased her extraordinary talent and dedication.nnThe staff in the post-operation wards and the discharging areas were also commendable. They ensured that my wife received the best possible care, making our stay as comfortable as possible. Their dedication and attention to detail did not go unnoticed, and we are immensely grateful for their efforts.

As soon as I entered Waitakere Hospital, every staff member was helpful, professional and caring. I cannot thank enough Clementine C for her dedicated care and absolute professionalism, left feeling fully informed and supported in my healthcare journey,
I came here at about 9 PM at night with breathing problems, I was having complications to do with my asthma. Leaving out minor details I was given two strong steroid tablets which I later found out when I went to the doctors, weren’t even recorded on my medication record from the hospital. Not only did that anger me when I found out but my hospital visit was Not great. I insisted the nurse to give me this treatment I used to have when I was younger for my asthma, a nebuliser. I was experiencing the same issues I was when I was young and the nebuliser would fix it almost instantly. She insisted it wasn’t necessary however and there might be an underlying issue. The doctor wanted to do a blood test and even said that I may have amnesia which I knew was bullcrap. I feel I received very poor treatment here , I wasn’t being listened to by the doctors and instead they tried making up as if I had an issue which I definitely did not. I am sure if I had amnesia I would definitely already know. I am one for human biology I’m no stranger to it as I study it. Just because someone is a doctor doesn’t mean they are always right. First and last time I’ll ever go to Waitākere hospital which is a shame since I live in the area.
