Fab location, rooms, views, facilities and service. Would definitely stay here again. Also got a free hot drink at the Street Organics cafe which was very good. The spa was also really nice and warm the pool isn’t heated but the spa is! Rooms: Spacious, great views and all the facilities you could need including washing machine and dryer Nearby activities: Lots to do nearby Walkability: Close to lots of bars, cafes, restaurants and the beach.
Beautiful hotel and facilities. Unfortunately little effort gone into environmental sustainability. Despite signage for conserving electricity as a sustainable measure, all lights and TV were on when entering the room confirmed by other guests that this seems to be the norm. All packaging including soaps, dishwashing liquid etc. was all packaged in single use non recyclable sachets. Disappointing to see but would be great to see this hotel look into more sustainable measures. Aside from this the room was lovely and hotel staff friendly and welcoming. Good facilities in the hotel as well as good location walking distance from shops and beach
Last-minute stay ended up being a fair disappointment due to mold in several areas of the bathroom, and inattentive cleaning around/behind skirting/furniture as well as disgusting dust build-up on bathroom extractor cover directly over where you shower in the narrow 1970’s tub and air system vent covers. Heating also did not work. We were essentially told upon speaking with the front desk “somehow we missed blocking this unit off; we are currently deep cleaning all the bathrooms and doing overhaul maintenance unit-by-unit” and thankfully we were offered a discount on our stay without prompting. Stayed above the 11th floor so road noise was minimal; disappointed to find out upon arrival that there was no dining/bar option as the website leads you to believe. Very overpriced meals advertised in elevators from a nearby cafe that doesn’t even deliver to the hotel. Example: frozen beef pie for $40; available at nearby grocery store for $21 for 100g less volume. Serious lack of consideration for sustainable ways to provide laundry or dish soap which are abundantly easy to come across in 2024 in a major metro like Auckland. Regarding “4-star” status, this is a joke. Besides the above-mentioned items, the lobby hardwood floor is splintered Health & Safety issue and fairly destroyed in highly visible areas plus unsightly; no room service; no business center nor spa services; there are no minibars in rooms; the bedroom is barely 11.75sq meters so a decent way off from the 14sq meters internationally regarded for the bedroom in this star rating; no bedside USB; no complimentary bottled water; no valet; no dry cleaning offered… you get the point. In its current state, a marginal 3-star by international standards. Walkability: Easy access to nearby shops, restaurants, grocery store and beach. Food & drinks: Despite advertising “dining and bar” on the website, they have apparently been out of commission since COVID 2020 and no plans to reopen. The hotel has over-priced frozen small portions of meals from a nearby cafe, plus “recommended sides” like $5 sachets of rice which are $2.80 at the nearby grocery store.
I stayed in this hotel 10 years ago and had good memories so wanted to stay again. Unfortunately, as everyone else has said, the rooms are really dated now and need renovation. I was put into a room with two single beds after booking a double. I paid extra for a view and a balcony and the room they suggested to move me into if I wanted the bigger bed had neither. I just wanted what I booked. Supposed to be a non-smoking room but badly smells of cigarette smoke. I guess it’s just in the carpets after so many years. No restaurant and instead you can buy frozen meals and a “breakfast box” which reminds me of something you would get from the dairy as a child. The phone emitted a strange high-pitched noise every few minutes so I had to unplug it. It’s very strange and a bit sad to see how the hotel is going down hill. They should really invest into making it a proper 4 star hotel again. The staff member I spoke to was friendly and the room has a nice view but I don’t think I would stay here again.
The Spencer Hotel is a comfortable and stylish accommodation option. Located in a convenient area, it offers modern amenities and well-appointed rooms. The hotel's attentive staff and contemporary design create a welcoming atmosphere. While its proximity to local attractions and business districts is a plus, some may find the room rates slightly higher. Overall, Spencer Hotel provides a pleasant stay with a balance of comfort and accessibility.
All of the Staff iwere so attentive and super friendly. Room was clean, and the view of Rangitoto at sunset and sunrise was phenomenal. Couldn't ask for a better location. It's centrally located to absolutely everything and within walking distance! Will stay again for sure! Rooms: A little bit dated, but very nice and super clean. Safety: Super safe downtown Takapuna Walkability: You can walk to absolutely everything!! Food & drinks: A ton of options within walking distance
Close to Takapuna Beach area. I got a suite so it came with a washer and dryer. The gym was nice. I was not aware that someone was not at reception all night so if you are coming after 9 to check in you better email the hotel first !!Rooms: 4/5
Great location and a nice big rooms! It’s amazing to have a kitchen, fridge and freezer along with washing machine and a dryer in the room. Highly recommend, specially for families. We got a cot delivered for our baby for free. Our older son loved playing in the heated pool which was super clean and tidy! The best and most convenient hotel in Auckland in my opinion. Easy bus ride to the city center and back. I do hope they open up the restaurant again. Will be coming back! Rooms: Big and convenient.
Hotel is getting very dated and rooms could do with a refresh, wifi was very poor. Location is the saving grace very close to lots of great restaurants and takapuna beach.Rooms: 2/5
Probably the tallest building in North Shore Auckland and gives you a great view of Takapuna. It's close to Takapuna Beach which is one of the most popular. Nearby activities: Paragliding, kayaking Walkability: Close to the beach Food & drinks: Takapuna Beach Cafe, Denizen Noteworthy details: Close to shopping mall
