Sudima Hotel Lake Rotorua

Very happy with our family room. Location within easy walk to shops, food, and lake. And best of all for those with EVs 2 free charging points ..not fast but great for top ups. Staff very friendly too. Great location to all the great activities in Rotorua like mountain bike riding.Rooms: 5/5

Staff were absolutely awesome but giving it 3 stars. Hotel obviously had seen better days and look run down. Rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable but everything just looks dated, and don't look anything like the photos. And the hotel is more like a group of buildings which is inconvenient if you have to drive to your "block". And our building did not have a lift too, even at 2 storeys it can be quite challenging if you have heavy luggage. We were also put in a room that was infront of the main road which had a lot of noise. Overall an average experience.

There was a very long wait to check-in, but the staff manager was nice to talk to. However once we got to the room things took a turn. The room didn’t look like the photos when we booked, the room was quite old and rundown but worst of all there was evident mould in the shower and on the shower head. The rest of the room cleanliness was poor as well. Left the room and hotel after this without sleeping the night.

Hotel was average at best. Left a necklace that I had bought as a gift for my mum in the room. Hotel staff contacted us and said they would send us an email to confirm posting it to Australia for us we were happy to pay the cost. We never received an email from them and when we tried to follow up had no response. Will not be staying with this hotel again.

We paid $560 for x 3 nights absolutely awful. House keeping changed the towels and bin in our room that was it. Called reception for extra toilet paper and to take a tray away, no one came. My partner had to go the Pak n Save across the road in the end. We had no hand soap at all the whole time, had to use the body wash to wash our hands. The price for this stay did not reflect the service. Two good things about the hotel was the beds were nice and comfy and the room service food. Will not stay again and do not recommend. Please do better Sudima! never stay again

I simply cannot believe this is a 4-star hotel. Even my last stay in a motel is better than this! The only good thing is the location and probably 80% of the hotels in town qualify this. Firstly the room itself is horrible for a 4-star hotel. When we first enter the room, it’s full of the chemical smell of cleaning products. The room is old and small, facilities are either not properly cleaned or very old. The TV is not even smart TV nor has Sky channels. Poor natural lights and no views from the room. If you want privacy and pull the curtain, then basically you have to turn on your lights cause it’s too dark. Due to the poor design of the room,the noise proof is also horrible, you can hear everything outside if someone is talking or kids running. You cannot open the bathroom window and in the evening you can see bugs covered on the window. There’s even one spider on my bed when I try to sleep. The lights are not working and the kettle was broken! Unbelievable! Secondly, the service was unpleasant too. We waited for the room for like over 3 hours. I do understand there might be staff shortage but the reception could’ve handled it differently! They provided us incorrect waiting time and wrecked our afternoon plan. We stayed in town only for the room and when we came back the room was still not ready. The staff were kinda friendly however there’s only apologies without any action. No drink vouchers nor discounted or even complimentary breakfast was offered! I worked in hospitality industry and had faced these situations but I’d deal with these differently and at least make the guests happy. But my understanding is overwhelmed by my disappointment and our experience could’ve been much better if they had a different approach. Definitely think twice and choose wisely before coming. The town has many other hotels providing better room and service with similar or lower price. The hotel service and room simply don’t match the brand and price and there’re so many things they need to work on. Firstly is probably the renovation and more professional training. We regret so much for not researching properly before coming to Rotorua. The town is so lovely but the hotel experience ruined our mood and it’s definitely throned “the worst accommodation” throughout our Christmas trip!!!

Friendly staff, all very welcoming and checked with us if we needed anything. The room was perfect for our family holiday, kids enjoyed the space and big beds. Lovely warm pool to swim in too.Rooms: 5/5

I stayed at this hotel on 11/30/22 and had originally booked a two night stay. This hotel is currently under active construction and there isn't enough staff to support. I immediately smelled the sulfur inside the hotel room when I walked in. I thought their air circulation would have been better filtered. My husband and I could not stand the smell that we checked out earlier when the front staff said they would refund us. I called back after the trip to find out not only did they not respect the refund policy, but they lied and said I did not check out early. STAY AWAY if you want to be respected and to not smell rotten eggs.

This is a wonderful hotel. Super comfy beds, spacious room with decent size soft towels and quality toiletries that don’t combine shower jel, shampoo and conditioner into one lousy sachet! Add to that free use of laundromat, friendly staff and a well stocked bar, happy days!

While the Sudima staff were absolutely fantastic, the facilities are run down and in some instances dangerous due to neglect over time. The whole place in undergoing major renovations, but we stayed in a building that hasn’t been updated yet. Water damage and mould in bathrooms, rooms not serviced during our 3 night stay, and outside railing was covered in corrosion/rust and wear and tear. The rooms were not well cleaned. Our 3yo loved the heated outdoor pool, the spa pool is in the process of being filled. We were genuinely shocked at the state of this property as it does NOT reflect the photos online or the price we paid. Would not stay again.
