Hosting a large event isn't easy, especially such an unusual one. More so when ALL the guests come with extra glitter, sequins & make up. The staff went the extra mile to make their guests' stay special & to help the event run smoothly, whilst at full capacity. There were issues with my room, which they tried to sort out whilst under immense pressure but it still didn't ruin the excellent weekend. The facilities are fantastic; wonderful pool & spa, great breakfast buffet it was so busy & things were replenished fast, beautiful gardens, cool tunnel walkway & staff that were incredible.
Great size rooms, comfy beds, nice big heated pool for the kid and also not a bad hot spa too. Would have been great if the pool was a bit warmer, with the roof open and on a cold day, did not last long in it! Breakfast was nothing to write home about. The dinner was good, the lamb shank was done nicely. When we checked in, the front desk staff Indian were super friendly, welcoming and what a big difference from the Chateau Tongariro experience with front desk staff. With friendly staff and clean functioning room, will be back.
Beautiful rooms, views and whiffs of the lake. Very comfortable beds and towels. Good selection of teas with the kettle. My room had a wine cooler which wasn't quite cold enough but I saw another room with a regular fridge. This morning I was disappointed with the shower but it was definitely warm enough. Food in the dining room was excellent. Sorry our group only stayed one night! Rooms: As mentioned above, nicely furnished, including desk. Lots of control over AC, good access to electrical outlets for chargers, good toiletries provided. It's been a while.sinxe i saw a "vanity kit" :. Walkability: I walked to a shopping centre and also passed a great Souvenir shop not far away.
The hotel is old and it shows. Everything in the bathroom is rusted. Can't even dare to soak in the tub as it looks very dirty. All the furniture has faded and has been damaged over time. It belongs to a different decade too. The air con unit is as old as the hotel and can barely cool in the summer heat. Not many plugs in the room either. Don't pay a lot for this hotel as I did300+ per night, it's not worth it. Now comes the good part of the review. The beds are okay and the location is central. I can't really say anything else that's good about the hotel.
This hotel used to be great. Now the service has fallen way below standard. You have to pay extra for a coffee with your continental breakfast. The coffee order was wrong 3 times. The staff member making the coffee coughed into her hand then used the same hand to put a lid on a takeaway coffee cup. Very concerning that minimum hygiene standards are not being adhered to. We stay here every time we come to rotorua and are very disappointed that the friendliness and standards have fallen away.
The rooms are old, 80's style. Beds are comfortable. Shower was absolutely terrible you have to work at trying to get wet, the shower head is so old and corroded and the nozzles spray in every direction. Also the shower is in a bath with a shower curtain that hardly keeps the water in, goes all over the floor. The worst thing is that the windows are single pane with a large vent up the top that lets in the sulphur smell in from the geysers and the sound in from outside! The buffet breakfast was good.
Can’t find anything bad about this place. Room clean and comfortable, great breakfast and overall really positive stay at this hotel. All the staff really kind and professional, especially the receptionist at my check-in, his service 10/10
TLDR: rooms are falling apart, sad water pressure, and a complete lack of care for folks on a plant-based diet. Room: Room 3418 was rough. We understand that the sulpher air of Rotorua is difficult to contend with, but this room smelt worse than rotten eggs. We would turn on the AC to try and circulate the sulfur air and not feel stifled. However, while it helped the sulfur smell, the musty/moldy smell from the AC kicked in and destroyed our allergies. Additionally, you can see from the pictures that the hotel is falling apart. Wood chipping away, unclean grout, and carpet stains. Food: "Don't sleep in restaurants and don't eat in hotels." This age-old advice rings true here. For vegans, the breakfast was horrific where the staff could not tell us if even the grilled tomatoes were vegan. So we went hungry that day and to be clear, both our trip planner and us emailed the hotel a week in advance to confirm solid vegan options for prepaid meals, and the hotel assured us we would be satisfied. Rooms: Falling apart and not clean. Nearby activities: Hot springs and town. Food & drinks: You going to get sick as a vegan most likely. Run away!
Unfriendly and impatient staff at reception. My key card wasn’t working properly and went down twice but that staff was pretty sure the card has no problem until we request another staff to come over with me to check and even his staff card cannot access the room. Then finally we offered to change another room. The shower is obviously weak and live spider inside room. We went down for breakfast on first day but staff didn’t mention our room rates isn’t covered breakfast and let us in. Again, front desk receiption’s attitude was terrible when we check out and realised there is a breakfast charges. Well, I don’t mind paying breakfast if they could politely explain when I checked in at the Receiption or at the restaurant!!
The rooms are old, 80's style. Beds are comfortable. Shower was absolutely terrible you have to work at trying to get wet, the shower head is so old and corroded and the nozzles spray in every direction. And the mixer was fixed so you could only get a luke warm shower. Won't be back..Rooms: 1/5
