We stayed her in a twin room for 1 night midweek. First off, we booked directly due to a sale only to discover that Expedia had a cheaper price so consider looking there first, even if there is a sale. We had a great time eating at the restaurants and swimming in the pool/ using the sauna which were never busy and we were often the only ones there, that did give you time to look around so you could see that the out of reach cleaning was a bit lacking but the facilities themselves were spotless. The staff were professional and friendly. One elevator was under renovation but it didn’t really slow things down that much. There was free car parking at that time too which was a reason we decided to stay there too. If there are no photos of the view from the room, assume there isn’t one. We were looking into the hotel next door. Room service menu attached as I found it hard to find online. Did have video of room but can’t find a way to post it.
It was our first ever Auckland trip. We were a bit lost with the confusing lanes and all that. Staying at The Grand means EVERYTHING is close to us. The lobby has this luxurious vibe and we loved the view from our room. We were also given the chance to check in early with NO FEE! What a treat after a long day's travel. And ooh, sauna and lap pool was such a great addition. We didn't know it was FREE! : We will certainly come back. Nearby activities: Museum, casino and Sky Tower! Safety: You can't go to floors without having your room card so no one can easily just go to accomodation floors. Walkability: It's in the CBD! No need to drive to go to places you'd like! Food & drinks: Food and drinks are literally in the same building or 1 minute walk!
The rooms were nice and clean, location was great. Room service staffs are great too. However, my parents encountered an unpleasant experience when they asked the luggage counter to order a taxi to the airport. Instead of calling a taxi from the hotel lobby, the staff took them to Sky tower which is a few min away and introduced them to a taxi that doesn’t charge by meter but a overpriced fixed fee. My parents couldn’t speak EN so they couldn’t do anything but accept this arrangement. The staff probably knows the taxi driver and arranged this on purpose to get a share. Hope the hotel management can look into this behavior and prevent the staffs from doing it. It will be also good for the hotel to know their staffs’ language abilities and indicate which staffs can speak foreign languages. When I asked if there is any staff can speak Chinese, the staff from the check in told me none, but later I did encounter someone who seemed to be Chinese accent.
I regularly travel to Auckland from Melbourne, I usually stay at the QT in Auckland. I was spectacle staying here due to mixed reviews. I checked in early hours in the morning. On arrival i meet BILAL at reception, I was tired and just wanted to go to my room. BILAL was amazing, so patient and understanding, I hate waiting so long, he made the experience quick and painless. I want to thank BILAL for your exceptional customer service it is rare to come across these days. I have stayed in a number of different hotel chains, like the four seasons, the Langham, the Marriott etc. His customer was one of the best of the best I have come accross. My experience so far has been GREAT, I’m staying in a grand deluxe suite on level 15 for three nights. Room is light, spacious clean, walls are thick very quiet, they have a number of different amenities on site which is convenient. Calling reception is hassle free. I definitely will be booking my stays here from now on I have been converted to THE GRAND AT SKY CITY.
Booked a room for 3 nights. This hotel is centrally located in the CBD. It was very easy to walk anywhere we needed to go. Service was great, and the rooms were comfortable. If I am in Auckland again, I would absolutely stay here.Rooms: 5/5
I don’t know how this hotel got five stars. I’d say it’s a 4 star at best. Old rooms, old bathrooms, dirty couch…. Staff polite and friendly but inflexible with the check out times. Location is great on the other hand.Rooms: 1/5
Best experience I’ve ever had! The staff were incredibly lovely, the view amazing and the room perfect. Absolutely loved the bed and the amenities. I do a lot of traveling for work and this is the hands-down best experience I’ve had. I came for a conference and felt so relaxed in the room that it was hard to leave.
I have never encountered such conditions at a five-star hotel before. We were there for the New Year's countdown event. Unfortunately, all the elevators were out of order, and someone was trapped inside one of them. Additionally, the fire escape doors were locked on every floor. The breakfast buffet was disorganized and the food tasted subpar. The swimming pool appeared to be less than clean, as I experienced itching after swimming. To top it off, the room service was slow, and someone knocked on our door without any apparent reason.
Check in at 3PM is just ridiculous unless you pay more, and that alone is a reason not to go here. Staff will knock on your door to clean the room at 10AM which is just ridiculous for people who come from oversea's when NZ has such a far ahead timezone. Inconsistent cleaning, had to chase them up on one of the days too Either staff are untrained or there is scummy tactics from management. But even though we prepaid our room weeks before they still were charging $45 pp for each breakfast even though in the online purchase it was an add-on for $30 per person. This is also all charged at the end of the trip, just let us pay up front. Never seen hotels do this before. Staff also inconsistent with one concierge telling us you can come and go with parking, and another one telling us that for the 3 nights we are here, you can not leave the parking unless you pay $35 each time and added that onto our billwe left once in 3 nights there. I get that people can abuse that, but when you choose 'free parking' as an addon on the booking you would at least expect once a day, otherwise I'd just book 3 seperate nights. Buffet Breakfast was pretty average, nothing special about it. Although again staff will come tell you at 10:15 that they close at 10:30 even though all over the website it says 11AM.
Lengthy review so sit tight and grab that cuppa or beverage. After almost 32hrs of flights and transfer times we arrived at hotel at 5am ‍. Parked up in SkyCity main car park and headed up elevator to hotel reception. Slight moment of panic when told we didn’t have a reservation , but receptionist quickly pointed out we were in wrong hotel SkyCity vs Grand SkyCity….common mistake apparently . Anyway, was just a 1min walk round corner to the Grand Room wasn’t a available but no surprise, so we stowed luggage with concierge and grabbed a coffee at Goodtimes Coffee just round corner which was v nice and took a walk down to the marina. After some negotiation with wife, we hired a couple of electric scooters and spent hour scooting around Auckland bay! Back to hotel at around 11am and thankfully they managed to get our room ready The reception said they’d have our cases sent up so we headed up. Nice room and lovely views across the bay. Waited almost hour for luggage though and nothing, so had to go downstairs and get it ourselves. Next morning, headed down for breakfast. Restaurant looked nice as we entered but slightly underwhelmed once in the restaurant…. Firstly, we were sat at table and asked if we wanted to order poached eggs or omelette with just 2 ingredients. If you wanted extra omelette ingredients you had to go to buffet counter to select and add to a separate plate, then unpick your omelette to add your extras. Poached eggs, assuming you wanted these with toast, you had to get your own toast and try to time this for the arrival of your eggs! Overall, a bit confused and inefficient in their structure here! The coffee and tea felt like something from an 80s convention centre, with those industrial hot water boilers which btw we quickly realised had ran out of water and the old school filter coffee from those classic American dinners. A good finger grip also needed for the coffee/tea mugs, as the tiny handle seemed ornamental vs any practical use Later that evening we asked concierge for a bucket of ice to be sent up up room. Again, an hour went past and nothing, so we decided to hit the pillows as too knackered. Then guess what, appx 15mins after head down and just entering the ‘REM mode’ a bang at door Decided to ignore it but this member of staff was persistent to say least bit held firm. Following what felt like the 7min scene from the Cable Guy movie, he finally left ‍ Overall, great location and room was nice with fantastic view over marina and SkyTower floor 17. Bed was lovely and comfortable too. Only main complaints was the weird breakfast setup and repeated delays with room service requests. Rooms: Great views from our room and bed was really comfortable Nearby activities: Lots to do in SkyTower complex Walkability: 10min walk to marina
