an incident that occurred at waves on 07/01/2025 around 3:10 pm.nnWhile my daughters were in the wave pool on a floating toy, three boys approximately 7–8 years old were chasing and intentionally flopping over them, creating a dangerous situation. This behavior escalated over several instances. I attempted to locate the boys’ parents, but the group appeared to be unsupervised in the pool. I approached a lifeguard, B, to report the situation and request assistance. However, she stated that she was busy and advised me to remove my daughters from the water myself, saying she could not address the boys’ behavior.nnShortly after, I saw my daughters fall into the water. I rushed to assist them, but fortunately, a male lifeguard had already helped them out of the pool and was aware of the situation. I suggested that he locate the boys’ parents to prevent further unsafe behavior. After some time, we managed to identify one boy’s father, and the issue was addressed. However, I felt deeply frustrated by the lifeguards’ delayed response and lack of support during such a serious safety concern.nnFollowing this incident, I moved my daughters to the quieter recreation pool. I spoke to B again about the situation and expressed my upset emotions regarding her inadequate response. She advised me to keep a close eye on my daughters, which I agreed to.nnDespite this, B continued approaching me repeatedly. She instructed me not to use my phone, even though I was not actively using it except to draft a message about the earlier incident. My eyes were always on my daughters, and I never compromised their safety. Later, while speaking with a friend and watching my daughters, B approached me again, claiming my daughter was trying to jump and insisting I ensure her safety. I felt unfairly targeted, as I was complying with the rules and monitoring my children.nnI also questioned why, during the earlier incident in the wave pool, the lifeguards failed to take immediate action to address the unsupervised boys’ unacceptable behavior. Why were they allowed to remain in the pool without parental supervision? Why was no warning issued to them, despite their actions endangering others? As a parent seeking help, I felt let down by the lifeguards’ inaction.nnEven I reported this incident to waves office, no reply, no feedback
The hygiene conditions are extremely poor. I have previously noticed a lot of ants in the disabled/family changing room, and the facilities in the changing area are poorly maintained. The showers are barely functional. The lifeguards appear to be very busy, but they frequently and “proactively” remind you about potential issues that haven’t even occurred yet, repeatedly interrupting your enjoyment of the pool. They seem to focus on singling out individuals, persistently bothering them if they’re holding a phone, even if the phone isn’t in use. Meanwhile, I clearly saw a parent working on a laptop nearby, yet the lifeguards didn’t repeatedly remind her that she “should be watching her child every single second.” The lifeguards also seem unconcerned about groups of children playing roughly in the pool—apparently, having one adult supervising seven or eight kids is sufficient in their view.
Waves is a fun for all the family kind of place from one end to the other.nAll sorts of wateriness is there to enjoy.nLap pool, spa and the wave generating pool are popular. A small water park at the rear of the building will get you soaked to the skin too.nCoffee, cold drinks and all manner of food are available from the cafe. Lunchtime on this warm Saturday was peak hour and we had to wait a while to receive our ordernStaff are smiley and friendlynHighly recommended
My daughter enrolled the swimming lessons during the school holidays.nWhen we arrived for our 3rd lesson we were told we haven't paid. I offered can we fix that when we finish our lesson. The lady told us she doesn't want to chase us around. But I said I have advised the credit card number and I thought I paid. Also, for the first 2 lessons no one asked and we were early, so we have plenty of time to pay. The lady just said rudely that you still have 5 minutes before the lesson!nSo we have to get everything sorted before having the lesson.
I had a very disappointing experience at Waves a few days ago, which has unfortunately turned what should have been a positive and encouraging outing into a confidence-damaging event for my son.nnHe wanted to practice swimming a full lap in the 25m pool in preparation for his upcoming swim carnival. After completing the lap in the slow lane where no one else was and attempting to exit the pool in the deep end as he couldn't do a second one, a lifeguard confronted us with a tirade of criticism. She accused me of not supervising him despite me actively watching the entire time and said he wasn’t a strong enough swimmer for the deep end as he couldn't complete 2 laps. While I understand the importance of strict safety rules in an aquatic environment, I felt this situation was handled in an unnecessarily heavy-handed and aggressive manner.nnThe female lifeguard’s tone was shocking—both towards my son and myself - far from the kind of constructive or supportive approach I’ve experienced at other aquatic centres or in any other retail environment for that matter. This has sadly impacted my son’s confidence, and now he doesn’t even want to go near a pool.nnOther centres I’ve visited have managed to strike a good balance between maintaining safety and treating customers with respect and friendliness. This is something Waves needs to reflect on seriously based on the number of similar reviews highlighting the same issue, as it has unfortunately left us with no desire to return.
