I visited Village Cinemas Rivoli in November 2025 for the premiere of our YouTube series, Melbourne Survivor, which was organised by Eden Porter. It was such a kind thing for him to do for the fan made Survivor community, and getting to watch the first episode of a season I was in on the big screen was honestly surreal. Seeing myself up there in a cinema while surrounded by family, friends, and fellow players was one of those experiences that felt impossible until it was actually happening. I travelled in by Uber, but it’s also very easy to reach via public transport. There are trams running nearby with stops only a short walk from the cinema, and the building itself is impossible to miss. It’s a huge multi storey cinema with a striking exterior that already gives you a sense that you’re heading somewhere a little different from your average movie spot.nnThe moment I walked inside I fell in love with the place. It has so much old school cinema charm that has been preserved beautifully over the years. From the carpets to the grand staircases and classic architecture, it feels like stepping back into a different era of movie going. Even before getting to the cinema itself, the building feels special. There is a snack area selling all the usual cinema favourites, Gold Class dining downstairs, and toilets across multiple levels. The layout is easy to navigate and there are several ways to get upstairs to the theatres. The staircases in particular are gorgeous and feel incredibly grand, almost like something out of Titanic with their design and detailing.nnFor our event, the theatre was set up perfectly. The staff had worked with the organisers beforehand to test everything and make sure the episode would play correctly on the big screen. It was clear that a lot of effort had gone into making the night run smoothly, and I really appreciated how helpful everyone was throughout the process. After the premiere, we headed out to the cinema’s bar area where everyone gathered to chat, celebrate, and relive moments from the episode. With around eighty people attending it became quite crowded, but that was part of the fun. It was lovely getting to wander around, catch up with people, and hear everyone’s reactions. The drinks were flowing, the conversations were lively, and it felt like the perfect way to finish the evening.nnThe staff throughout the night were wonderful. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, and the bartender was particularly kind despite how busy things became. As the evening went on and the venue began winding down, we eventually headed home, but I left feeling incredibly grateful for the experience. Village Cinemas Rivoli is one of the most beautiful cinemas I’ve visited. The architecture, the history, and the attention to detail give it so much character, and it feels very different from many modern cinemas. Whether you’re heading there for a film or a special event it’s well worth a visit. I’ll always have fond memories of spending that evening there, and I hope plenty of other people get the chance to experience it too.
When I went for the first time, the appearance, especially the interior, is so unreal. There were so much of gold and other embellishments that it feels like you're visiting a mansion/casino. And don't get me started on the service - it was PHENOMINAL. They have birthday rooms, lounges, you name it. When meeting with the employees, the service was quick and professional. In fact, the experience feels like whenever I go to an ordinary Cinema, but fancier. Can't wait to go to this cinema the next time I decide to watch a movie!
The lift wasn't working and my client didn't feel comfortable using the stairs, so we had to change the movie we had previously chosen. The staff and the manager were fully aware of the situation and quickly offered us options that made my client feel safe and allowed us to enjoy a different movie. It turned out to be a very warm and pleasant experience despite the unexpected change.
The staff and food are sensational. I used to visit this place decades ago and recently returned for Gold Class. It was wonderful to come back, but unfortunately it was also a little disappointing to see that the décor has barely changed over the years.nnWhat stood out most, however, was a strong musty smell throughout the Gold Class cinema. It was quite distracting during the movie. I also noticed several scented devices placed around the cinema, which made me wonder if they were there to mask the odour. While that may help temporarily, it doesn’t seem like a long-term solution. It may be worth looking into whether the smell is coming from old carpets, furniture, or another underlying issue.nnThis venue is a timeless classic in a fantastic location, and it deserves the investment and attention needed to bring it back to life. I genuinely hope there are plans to refurbish and refresh the cinema, as it has so much potential.nnProofread by AI
I did the Gold Class experience and it was beyond my expectation. The margherita pizza was suprisingly good. The service I wish could be faster being that I'd prefer to have my snacks and drinks before the movie starts. Overall the food and drinks were more enganging than the bad movie I was watching.
