Has a great mix of old-school charm and modern comfort. The screens and sound are top-notch, the seating’s comfy, and the rooftop bar is a nice touch. Easily one of the best spots to catch a movie in Melbourne.
Rivoli is such a beautiful building. What it lacks in modern cinema comfort and technology, it makes up for in its classic charm, from the foyer all the way through to the cinemas themselves.nnJust don't bother getting there until at least 15 minutes past the scheduled start time, especially with kids. This was my recent experience for a morning showing of a Pixar movie:n11.00am - Scheduled start. Adverts begin.n11.13am - Adverts end. Trailers begin.n11.21am - Trailers end. A couple more adverts.n11.23am - Actual movie start.
You expect gold class service when you are paying $50 per ticket unfortunately we did not receive this standard. We arrived at the theatre 25 minutes early only to have everyone around us served first. We then missed all the trailers and only arrived just in time to see Conclave. While the food we did get was very nice, many items were not available including a cider that we ordered. We had to have our meal charged on our credit card in the dark and would have no idea whether we were charged correctly.
Beautiful Art Deco style cinema under the Village Cinema brand.n Sound system and screen comparable to basic Hoyts. Didn't notice any difference compared to non boutique cinemas.n Offer regular seating and Village Gold Class seating with a small dated Gold Class lounge. It has a private entrance off Camberwell Road.n Friendly staff ‍‍‍n Less busy than shopping mall cinemas and Lido. A more private experience.n Rooftop bar overlooking Camberwell Road.n Steep processing fee if purchasing online.n The fabric seats are uncomfortable and armrests are showing some wear. It doesn't recline unlike Hoyts, it is on the smaller side, the short half moon armrest is dated and uncomfortable. Seats are noticeably more upright and rigid than Lido and Hoyts. n Movie start times are 30 minutes AFTER the stipulated screening time. Allow 30 minutes of ads.
The cinema building had a lot of charm and housed several screens. During our time in Melbourne, we took the grandchildren to see Paddington in Peru. We had tickets that included popcorn, drinks, and a sweet treat, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Instead of watching the trailers, we opted to arrive just in time for the main feature, which began about 20 minutes later than the scheduled time.
