One of the great cinema experiences of Melbourne. Showing newly released films or the classics, the Astor provides great double features or special events that is suitable for everyone. I’m always looking at the calendar to see what’s next and will often try to see the classics I’ve missed here as I know it will be a great experience.
If you can get past the uncomfortable chairs, The Astor is easily Melbourne's most classic cinema. It is a stunning venue with lots of history that reeks of popcorn. The choc tops are to die for. I used to order their calendars every year and stick them up in my room, looking forward to their truly unique screenings. I pray they screen House of Wax 3D again someday. It is certainly a temple for film lovers and I hope it lasts forever.
The trade off between comfort and nostalgia in this classic cinema has nostalgia as the winner. Seating in need of repair and seating levels placing the heads of those in the next row down blocking the screen. The Astor Theatre remains a truely grand cinema experience.
This is such a great ole theatre in great condition. Like how your 90 year old grandpa still goes for a morning run type of condition!nWhat amazed me was the preservation of everything. The old 35mm projection system and movie posters reminding everyone of a time before Disney bought Marvel. A better time.
Great cinema experience, the building is beautiful and has that old art deco feel. The chairs are rather uncomfortable though.nThere's only 1 screen so there's plenty of room for the audience. The snack package I got was well priced.
