About

Lido Cinemas. Movies to talk about.

Story

Lido Cinemas is a brand new eight screen artiplex showing both commercial and new release art house films in the heart of Hawthorn’s bustling Glenferrie Road. Our exciting new cinema hosts special events and ensures audiences enjoy an intimate and specialised cinematic experience with films that cater for everyone. Possessing a vibrant atmosphere and boutique, individually designed cinemas, Lido’s diverse program of films and events will appeal to the many different tastes of film aficionados in the local area of Hawthorn and of wider Melbourne.

The Lido’s unique space has lost none of its grandeur since opening in 1912 when it first opened as a cinema. Innovative Architect Aidan Halloran has combined the building’s original structural features with contemporary design and technology. Preserving the building’s historic charm has been at the forefront of the design process and we hope you enjoy seeking out the cinema’s gorgeous original features. The Lido sees some of the world’s most cutting edge technology, including a 4K projector and Dolby Atmos, contrasted beautifully in our historic venue. If you look above you’ll also find Lido’s impressive rooftop cinema. Our rooftop forms as the first venue in mainland Australia to have a rooftop screen attached to the cinema.

Great cinema experience here. They play a range of arthouse and old school movies. Along with new Hollywood movies.nnThe bar selection is great, and you can take your drinks in the theatre.nnPre book seats in the theatre.nnOn the rooftop, they play movies in summer, which is cool. But rug up, it's always fresh up there.nnThis place rocks.
This cinema was right cosy, but as soon as we stepped into our screen, we were hit with a toxic cloud of farts that nearly knocked us out. There was nae escape, and we eventually acclimatised to our new found smelly environment after about ten minutes, but I’m telling ye, it was rough. I thought I was going to hurl, but had to keep my cool since there were other folks waiting for the film to start. More needs to be done to air out the bad smells from the screen or at the very least spray something, light a scented candle, bring a fan in to blow away the stench. I don’t know if the folks before us were watching a horror film and got a wee bit scared, but something bad had happened in that screen and I haven’t returned to this cinema since.
Nice cinema, good selection of films with great retro programming. Food is up there in price $10 for a medium popcorn, but I guess that's like most cinemas. Went to a Monday Matinee of Lawrence of Arabia - at $25 + parking it's not at all a cheap day out but the cost is reduced slightly if you're a member. Strangely the side borders weren't masked on the screen which was a bit of a letdown - you'd think it'd be projected incredibly if you're charging full price for a 60 year old film. To see it look amazing on the big screen is literally why we are there
Excellent boutique cinema experience. Best time to come is Tuesday as it’s $8/12 tickets for members/non members highly recommend becoming a member. Most places around here is unrestricted parking after 6pm. The cinemas are small seats roughly 60 I say but the seats are comfortable.nnThe other major selling point is it’s location, excellent options to eat before or after your movie session.
It's only a small open air cinema and they ran out of blankets.nnMelbourne weather is not conducive to open air events in the evening.nnIt is really pot luck with the weather.nnIt's the middle of summer and you have to be rugged up, with a winter coat, jumper and scarf, and the venue has all their heaters on.nnLast time i booked it was a washout.nnOverall if you are rugged up and it doesnt rsin its a good experience.
