Lido Cinemas. Movies to talk about.

Story

Lido Cinemas is a brand new eight screen artiplex showing both commercial and new release art house films in the heart of Hawthorn’s bustling Glenferrie Road. Our exciting new cinema hosts special events and ensures audiences enjoy an intimate and specialised cinematic experience with films that cater for everyone. Possessing a vibrant atmosphere and boutique, individually designed cinemas, Lido’s diverse program of films and events will appeal to the many different tastes of film aficionados in the local area of Hawthorn and of wider Melbourne.

The Lido’s unique space has lost none of its grandeur since opening in 1912 when it first opened as a cinema. Innovative Architect Aidan Halloran has combined the building’s original structural features with contemporary design and technology. Preserving the building’s historic charm has been at the forefront of the design process and we hope you enjoy seeking out the cinema’s gorgeous original features. The Lido sees some of the world’s most cutting edge technology, including a 4K projector and Dolby Atmos, contrasted beautifully in our historic venue. If you look above you’ll also find Lido’s impressive rooftop cinema. Our rooftop forms as the first venue in mainland Australia to have a rooftop screen attached to the cinema.

What should have been a simple night out turned into an unnecessarily frustrating experience.nThere was a comedy show running during halftime at the same time as the movie crowd, which meant the line was packed with people ordering drinks. Fair enough.. but for those of us who just wanted to buy tickets, it was chaotic, slow, and poorly managed.nnMidway through the film, things only got worse. The shopfront staff refused to sell me water, WATER. I was spoken to abruptly and with clear irritation, despite doing nothing to warrant that tone. I understand that dealing with difficult customers can wear you down, but taking it out on someone who has been nothing but polite is unacceptable.nnIf you're working in customer service, maintaining basic respect isn't optional.. it's the bare minimum. If that's too much to manage, it might be time to reconsider the role.
I recently went to Lido Cinemas and had such a lovely, low key movie night, perfect if you're after something a bit more relaxed and special than a regular multiplex.nnThe feel of Lido is cozy and slightly artsy the theatres are comfortable, with good sound and a steep seating gradient so even tall people in front of you don’t block the view.nnThe variety of films was great, they mix recent releases with indie and classic picks, so there’s usually something for every mood.nnI appreciated the vibe of the place: it doesn’t feel over the top or commercial, more like a boutique cinema where you can take your time and just enjoy the film properly.
Great independent cinema with 8 screens. Bar with food and drink options incl cocktails. Excellent accessibility options with a lift to each floor although I'm not 100% sure of accessibility options inside the cinemas themselves as I'm not a wheelchair user - best to check with staff. Free but time limited street parking on the main street and in the side street. Paid carpark at the back with entrance to the arcade.
Amazing movie theatre i'm definetly coming back to. Love the combination of Indie films, Block Busters, International Films etc. This is a theatre that any fan of movies can enjoy. Popcorn was really defined and delicous, staff were extremely friendly and clearly fans of films aswell. amazing experience all around. Best movie theatre i've been to in Melbourne.
Love this cinema. Lido is a boutique 8-screen complex that artfully blends a historic Federation building with Art Deco and retro-modern influences, creating a space full of character and charm with state of the art screens and sound. The atmosphere is intimate and has an insider vibe.nThe rooftop cinema is a standout feature, while the diner-style booths and bar add to the experience. Centrally located opposite the train station and tram stop, it's incredibly easy to get to, and there's plenty of free parking out the back after 6pm.nSurrounded by a multitude of eateries, it's the perfect destination for dinner and a movie. The whole precinct has a great vibe, making for a fantastic night out. One of Melbourne's most unique and enjoyable cinema experiences.
