I visited the emergency department last evening due to severe sore throat and yellow phlegm. The reception staff were friendly, which was appreciated. However, the doctor who attended to me did not seem experienced or thorough.nMy throat was in extreme pain — it hurt to swallow and even to speak. Despite describing my symptoms clearly, the doctor performed a very brief and seemingly unprofessional examination. When checking my heart, the stethoscope was placed near my chest area in a manner that felt unusual. For comparison, I’ve been to the emergency department at Canberra Hospital before, and never had a stethoscope applied that way.nThe doctor dismissed my condition as not serious and hand wrote a prescription for me to buy medication at Woolis. I followed the instructions and took the medicine as directed, but today my condition has worsened significantly. I’ve developed a cough, and the throat pain has become so severe that it brings me to tears.nIt’s extremely concerning when a doctor fails to provide an accurate diagnosis or appropriate treatment. This kind of oversight can seriously delay proper care and worsen a patient’s condition. I hope my feedback can help improve the quality of care for future patients.
Came in for some varicose vein surgery with an overnight stay booked. Checkin experience was warm and welcoming with full explanation of what to expect and costs involved.nnAs my arrival time was 7am I was sent up to the Vascular Reception which unfortunately wasn’t open until 8am so it was a bit confusing at first however the operating nurse crew arrived to take everyone through to get prepped for surgery.nnPre-theatre was super smooth with all the nurses and specialists visiting to make sure I was ready to go, they made me feel very comfortable throughout the entire operation.nnAfter waking up the nurses were very attentive and made sure pain was well managed, once in my room they assisted me with everything I needed and consistently checked in every 30mins. Handovers were good between nurses and they made sure to explain all the medications and aftercare.nnFood menu was extensive and pretty decent overall, portions were slightly small but makes sense for most patients. My advice is to order dinner early and order more than you think you need as the kitchen closes at 6:30pm and I definitely was hungry following the surgery.nnOvernight stay was good, there was constant beeping due to other patients calling the nurse so just be aware if you’re a light sleeper maybe bring earplugs as you can hear conversations happening in rooms nearby.nnFree wifi meant I could stay connected and get some work done in my down time, there is a tv in the room but it’s small so bring a tablet or laptop if you get bored easily.nnDefinitely make sure to pack a sufficient overnight bag which has easy access as I struggled a bit post surgery with just a backpack.nnShoutout to my Nurse Bronwyn who was making the transition from the ED to post op care. She was super thorough and open about what she was doing and we learnt a few things together. Really easy to talk to!nnShoutout to Dr Shan for performing the surgery as everything went well and he was very transparent about making sure everything was done correctly without causing more issues.nnWould highly recommend if you are able to get your surgery done here definitely do it!
A Huge Thank You nnBig thanks to all the amazing staff at the hospital — especially Aaron Low Educator and the wonderful nurses from Level 8 and ICU.nnLevel 8: Emily, Denise, Paul, Bhedi, Kelly, Jeena, Lisa, Ruel, Franz, Minira, Pam, Soja, Kate and all team.nICU: Nish, Kaitlin, Emma, Alena, Nandita & Andrew and all teamnnYou’ve all been so kind, supportive, and welcoming. I never felt left out — you always encouraged me to learn and grow. Your passion and care for patients truly inspired me, and I’ve learned so much from each of you.nnSpecial shoutout to Aaron for always finding learning opportunities for us — you made a huge difference!nnIf I could give you all 50 out of 50 stars, I would nThank you for making my placement such a great experience — I’ll never forget it!nnIf any patients is reading my comments- you are in care of very professional, kind and passionate hands.nnWith love and gratitude,nHappy RMIT Student

I presented at StVH emergency recent because of a severe head injury. My whole management was exemplary. All the staff and my management team Dr Stephen Parnis and Hannah Heng were caring, kind and efficient.nThanks very much and love your work.nI had 2 lots of extensive brain scans, multiple blood tests and a neurosurgical consult , all in 1 day.nBeing a retired anaesthetist and having worked in our public system for nearly 50 years, it gave me satisfaction to know that our free for all healthcares are in good hands.
