Western Hospital is a private hospital located in Colombo 8, Sri Lanka that specializes in renal disease care, dialysis and transplantation. It was founded by Prof Rezvi Sheriff, a renowned nephrologist in Sri Lanka who set up the first kidney transplant program in the island in October 1985. Western Hospital has the longest running kidney transplant program in the country. Today, it has expanded to provide various other services.ServicesWestern Hospital has 2 wards and 4 special units for inpatient services with approximately 25 beds. Wards are divided into either individual rooms or cubicles. The hospital offers intensive care for medical and post surgical cases as well as renal intensive care for kidney transplant patients. It has twin theatres for General Surgery, Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Kidney Transplant Surgery.Other patient services include OPD, Emergency Services, Mobile Services and Channeled Consultations for various specialties including Nephrology, Cardiology, Diabetology, ENT Surgery, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Rheumatology and more. I recently visited the new Footscray Hospital and was really impressed. The building feels huge, spacious, and very modern, with plenty of natural light and well-designed areas to move around comfortably. I also liked the variety of cafes available, which made the visit more pleasant and less scary for patients. The only small downside is that the exterior architecture looks a bit old compared to the modern interior.
I was admitted to the Emergency Department ED for a head injury, and overall my experience had both challenges and positives. I arrived around 4:30pm, but the queue and wait time in the ED were quite long. It took until about 9:00pm before I was finally admitted, as I had to wait for a bed to become available. The air conditioning also felt quite cold during the night, especially since I was only wearing shorts, which made the wait a bit uncomfortable.nnThat said, the hospital itself is very clean and feels new, and once admitted, the bed was comfortable. The staff were professional, attentive, and generally very nice throughout my stay.nnWhat stood out the most to me was Olivia, a nurse in the short-term bed area. She was incredibly warm and caring, and her presence made a stressful situation much more manageable. She truly helped me feel at peace during my time there.nnI was discharged around 4:30am. Despite the long wait in the ED, I’m grateful for the quality of care I received once I was admitted, especially from staff like Olivia.
Neglecting aboriginal patients and families of their rights to ask for a transfer to another hospital.nNot operating sooner and saying my dads toe was getting better when it was getting worse.nLeaving patients in a dirty bed, no communication to family members. The list goes on and on.
The new Footscray Hospital is extraordinary! Took my mum for an appointment just six weeks after it opened. So calm and organised. Beautiful gardens, light spaces, healing atmosphere, great food and terrific health care. Thanks to the Victorian government for investing in the West.
My grandma was taken by ambulance to Footscray western health and we had to wait in the emergency room for 3 hours without being with her because she didnt have a bed. She was in hospital and last minute, today, they discharged her and put her in a taxi to come to my house last minute without any time for us to get ready and we cant help her here due to her cracked pelvis. She needs rehab like last time. Also they didnt give her her meds to come home with and we had to call a chemist then we called the hospital to uber them and we went paying. Other then a brand new hospital, this hospital isnt a good one. I do not recommend it.
