I am a 74 year old grandma and a retired Dr. I was recently admitted to Ward 4 West B at the Alfred hospital.nMy experience is extremely positive, wonderful care and professionalism from the minute I arrived at the Admission team to the Short Stay Unit and finally the Ward. The spinal team specialists and the physiotherapists showed atmost kindness and professionalism.nI am going to focus my review on one person that left a great impact on me and the other patients in the Ward.nNurse Ade Tang is just a wonderful human being. She is an angel flying around her patients helping and providing the required treatment in addition to providing personal help and support to every patient in her ward.nI was lucky to have Ade as my caring nurse at many shifts .. mornings and afternoons which gave me the opportunity to see this angel in action working like a bee with all patients running from one patient to the other with a smile and apologetic words if she can't immediately respond to their requests.nnFurthermore, her excellent care extends to the patient visitors specially children. She goes out of her way to welcome them and make them happy.nnI am grateful to the Alfred hospital and all doctors and nurses for this positive experience and special thanks to nurse Ade for making my stay so smooth and comfortable.nnDr Zeinab KhalilnnAnd yet another day as a patient at Ward 4 West B at the Alfred hospital. Today I was looked after by another rising star nurse named Monika. She has a smile that never leaves her face. She has a magical hand when taking blood samples or giving injections. She has a wonderful caring personality when communicating with patients including those who speak different languages trying her best to respond to their needs. I will be writing about the wonderful Neuro Surgery Spinal Team in a separate review to particularly thank Dr Jass And Mr Patric Chan for their professionalism and their caring and understanding approach to my complex situation.nHowever, this component of the review is dedicated to specifically thank another wonderful human being and an angel, my nurse at Ward 6E, nurse Lara.nI am grateful to Lara's understanding of my emotional state during this difficult time going through very delicate symptoms and facing such a major surgery I felt that if she is my daughter she would not have been more understanding and would not have shown the extent of care and understanding that Lara has given me.nnThank you nurse Lara, I am indebted to you and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.nnDr Zeinab KhalilnnYesterday, Friday 27/2/26, I had my major spinal surgery lumbar laminectomy and thoracic fusion.nI am blessed to have another angel, nurse Yawindi, looking after me for two consecutive night shifts. Those nights represented the most difficult time for me at the Alfred hospital.nnYawindi is definitely meant to be a nurse. Such a kind soul providing professional help with kindness from the heart.nnWhen you look at her giving the medication with one hand you feel that she is carrying her heart in the other hand providing comfort and assurance to her patients letting them know it will be alright.nnYawindi's professionalism and most importantly her kind, beautiful and caring attitude towards her patients make them feel that they can face any difficulty during recovery.nnSuch angelic attitude has definitely brought me the assurance that tomorrow will be betternnThank you Yawindi, I will always remember you.nnDr Zeinab khalil

The best Hospital in Australia!nSee Newsweek article 'Best Hospitals' 2022nI am grateful for the speedy diagnosis of a rare condition in the ER.nQuickly, the appropriate treatment was started on the same day.nEDIT 2025: New entrance area and cafe 'food court' area completed. It looks super inviting, and is now back in line with The Alfred stellar reputation!nPS You are in good hands here...nI signed up for the online patient portal. No miss-communication or missed appointments here.
Had a long wait at the Alfred emergency in Melbourne. You see people from all walks of life there. Good people but maybe not fortunate as you are. Respect to all. The nurses were patient and kind, and once you’re in, the service and care are impeccable.nnThere’s good security on site, which makes the place feel safe. Parking is available on the street, but it fills up quickly and you might be there 5 to 6 hours. Best to take an Uber so you don’t need to worry about parking fines etc. 7-11 end of the street.nnMake sure you have a genuine reason to go in and try not to waste their time. The health system is already under huge stress and more vulnerable people need access first if possible.nnBig shout out to the health workers and doctors. What they do is extremely tough and driven purely by passion and love.nnSalute.
My sister is currently in the Alfred hospital after major surgery. The care received in recovery was professional the team/ nurses were attentive and helpful.nnOnce in the ward very different experience. The nursing staff appear to be quite young lacking the empathy and care factor needed by a patient recovering from major surgery.nnHer catheter leaked overnight which resulted in her being in a wet bed, she asked the nurse to change the sheets. The nurse put a towel over the wet spot instead of changing the bed. The bed was still unchanged when I spoke to her at 8.30 the following day.nnWhat is the problem here at Alfred hospital??nThis is not proper care for a hospital of your capacity. Is it funding or is it the lack of understanding and training.nnI have been to many public hospitals and have never experienced this before.
