We booked 2 deluxe double rooms with mountain view, the check in was easy, staff were friendly and helpful. The walk to the room was super far, hallway narrow and dated, the room was recently renovated clean, quiet and comfortable. The air con was nice and cool. The chairs on the balcony were comfortable to sit and read. The Nespresso coffee machine hit the spot. The pool area was ok, too many screaming kids when we were there, they have a pool bar near the pool which was good. Restaurants and bars close by.
Shangri-la were on top of things before we arrived. Communication was terrific. Everyone on staff we interacted with were great. From the porter, front desk, and restaurant staff; they were great.nOur room was spotless and comfortable.nBreakfast was outstanding. A great variety to choose from and all fresh and delicious.nDidn’t have time to enjoy the pool, but it looked very inviting.
Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns is an excellent choice for travelers looking to stay right in the heart of Cairns. The hotel’s central location makes exploring incredibly convenient, with the marina, waterfront promenade, restaurants, tour departures, and shopping all just steps away.nnThe accommodations were comfortable, clean, and well maintained. The rooms felt welcoming after long days of exploring the region, and the spacious bathrooms featuring a large soaking tub were a wonderful touch, perfect for relaxing and unwinding in the evening.nnOverall, this property offers a pleasant and reliable stay in a prime location. Its combination of comfort, cleanliness, and unbeatable proximity to everything Cairns has to offer makes it a solid option for both leisure travelers and those passing through on Great Barrier Reef adventures.
Nice breakfast buffet. Nice pool. Pizza from the pool bar was not good. Good location close to the marina for snorkel/dive boats. Kind of janky otherwise though - we stayed 4 nights and never got housekeeping service, the shower layout is kind of weird had a nice long retractable hang drying line though, and the room is big but sparse.nnOverall, we got a great value in the offseason through the Chase Edit program, but I would check out different options otherwise.
So here’s the gist - this place is extremely accommodating with absolutely fantastic customer service which is actually quite difficult to get in Cairns. They do better with in-person requests and bookings than over the phone, I found.nnThe place is open, classic mega hotel vibes with breezy entrances and a really nice buffet breakfast set up. The location is excellent. The pool is super fun and HUGE with lots of seats and shade.nnThe rooms are very spacious with excellent views.nnNegatives: the rooms are outdated and in need of maintenance. Not exactly a ritzy stay. Like it was probably due for a reno at least 10 years ago.nnBut cairns is more about adventure than opulence anyway.nnBottom line:nWould absolutely book again, especially with a group of adventure seekers or a big family.nnThe customer service is what really makes this place. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and polite. I’m very anti-tipping but this place tempted me.
