Such a good hostel!!nThe staff are so friendly and welcoming, always help you if its anything you need. It's social and easy to make new friends with the common areas. The kitchen and the dorms are clean and the bar is really nice with many options. I have no complains. I would recommend this hostel to everyone who visits Cairns.
Mad Monkey Jungle had the perfect mix between a social party atmosphere and a place where you could relax if you wanted. The staff were also amazing, helping out wherever and whenever they can. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and provided what is needed for a comfortable stay. Finally, the facilities offered were one of the best that a hostel in Cairns has to offer, from a resort style pool, to billiards and table tennis, to a large kitchen, and a lively bar, and even a tour agency!
This is going to be a long review so I'm just gonna start with the positive aspects.nThe hostel location is very nice it's right in the town centre and you can reach everything in just a few minutes. The Hostel itself is mostly clean and the staff at the front desk are really helpful and friendly. Coming to the negative aspects. The hostel is a social/party hostel which in itself is not bad if that is your thing. Just be aware that it's never really quiet. The main problem I had during my stay were the people. I had a 10 bedroom dorm which was fully booked and I could not sleep one night because people were so loud during the night for example: playing music on the balcony at 1:00 AM, walking into the room and turning the light on and leaving it on, going into the bathroom that is connected to the room and puking, coughing or cleaning the dishes dishes with food that of course attracted insectsin the bathroom sink without closing the door, people having sex in the hostel room during the night there are no curtains on the bed so you are subjected to everything, having random people come into the room and stay the night, people slamming doors in the building and constantly screaming during night. The hostel kitchen was really dirty and you had to constantly wash the dishes before using them because no one cleaned their dishes properly or left them soaking wet and just put them on the shelf they have signs there telling you do clean after yourself but everyone just ignored them. A lot of the ovens also didn't work which made baking stuff very difficult because the ones that did work were in constant use. What also happened a couple of times is that food got stolen out of the boxes that are used to store your food which is really annoying and disrespectful.nNeedless to say I did not enjoy my stay at this hostel and would not recommend it to anyone who needs to rest sometimes because you won't get any.
The best hostel I've stayed in in Australia! Everything is clean. The outdoor space really looks amazing! And such good vibes with the other guests and the staff! I highly recommend
Our dorm was absolutely disgusting. When we arrived, even the staff couldn’t find our beds because they were buried under other people’s dirty clothes.nnThere was garbage and used underwear everywhere, damp clothes made the entire bathroom reek, the sink was clogged, and every surface in the bathroom was covered with piles of dirty cosmetics, leaving zero space to even put down a toiletry bag. The lockers and power outlets above the beds were thick with dust. On top of that, some guests were vaping inside the room and some were having sex on the bunk bed below ours at 3 a.m at least 2 strangers got inside at night, which also doesn’t make it feel too safe. We had two awful nights, barely slept, and tried to spend as little time in the dorm as possible.nnI know this is a party hostel we weren’t going to bed early ourselves, and I’m used to a range of accommodation standards, but this was honestly a nightmare. Yes, much of it was caused by the guests, but I believe a hostel should enforce basic rules so that everyone can enjoy their stay. It felt that guests like me, that stayed here for 2 nights only, were at the mercy of the long-term tenants. The staff only mopped the small sections of floor they could access and put up a notice saying they couldn’t clean properly - which everyone simply ignored.nnYes, the location was good and the bar served nice beer, but that’s about it. What’s more, their age policy maximum 35 years old is blatantly ageist and discriminatory. I say this as someone under 35 myself - if this kind of restriction were based on any other demographic factor, it would never be accepted, so why is this?
