I remember staying here a few years ago and it was good and well kept. But unfortunately this time around it was a different story…..my room smelt really bad, bed was quite itchy, bathroom had a moldy smell and blood stains on the carpet which really made me uncomfortable…and lastly the balcony felt flimsy I did not feel safe at all.I’m sorry but it was not a pleasant stay.
I have stayed at multiple Oaks Hotels in Brisbane and they were all great so when I had to go to Melbourne for work for 3 days, I booked this hotel thinking that it'd be the same standard. Unfortunately, when I entered my room, the first thing that I noticed was the carpets were VERY dirty and some portions were ripped. Everything in the room was dusty bedside table, lamps etc. You cannot contact front desk to ask for towels, etc. because their phone is so old sometimes with dial tone, sometimes without and it is so slow 3-5 minutes before you can enter a second number and so you'd rather not place a call. The room smells of mold. Their bathroom is VERY small. If you take a shower, you have to make sure you adjust your shower level to a minimum because otherwise, it would overflow and the carpet outside will get wet! Do not ever step barefoot on the carpet. Don't ask me why. I didn't sleep that night and checked out after my work that day. I booked another hotel instead. Very disappointed.
The reason the property gets 3 stars is because they have amazing staff, always willing to help. The property is okay but the rooms definitely need refurbishment Beds - Mattresses need to changed, Air Conditioner - The split unit has definitely seen better days and it definitely needs a service and a good clean, Kitchen - The stove tops need to be repaired or replaced the fridge needs to be of this decade with at least two shelves and the microwave needs to be a bit bigger and more standard size in all rooms, they all have a different microwave, Balcony - They need a complete makeover and please that horrible furniture in junk, Washroom - Definitely needs proper walls than just a glass divider between toilet being 2ft away from the bed, poor design. If nothing else just sound and smell proof it please. Currently staying at the property for 21 days. This is after my move to the second room, and have looked at a couple of other rooms but still to find a room which is trouble free.
My stay was for a couple of days for work. Cannot beat the rate and ease of booking for a rushed trip. A very convenient location and rooms were of a good size clean and comfortable. Very happy with my stay as it was close to where work was.Rooms: 5/5
Good room but bathroom was the size of a walk-in wardrobe & sliding door didn't fully close. Seemed to be added as an after thought but otherwise reasonable space. Well located for working in the southern end of the CBD. Staff were very helpful :Rooms: 4/5
I stayed here for work, it is okay for a night or two. It’s a little ordinary and I found the bathroom had a musty smell probably due to not enough ventilation. The bed is comfortable enough and the location is good, however I would choose to stay elsewhere next time.Rooms: 3/5
I really feel unsafe here. The rooms are super old, very outdated, stained and just gross. I paid for 2 nights for the Studio Executive High Apartment approx $179 per night and I am absolutely disappointed and I feel super sick staying here. The bathroom is mouldy and has an exposed beam that is rusting, these is a big water stain on the carpet and a wet spot near the bathroom, not sure why it's wet tbh. My room has a balcony and I swear I just get the icky feeling that someone is going to break in, the balcony door keeps making a clunky sound every time the wind blows and the situation isn't helped when the group of guys next door are chatting late at night. The walls are paper thin I can hear my neighbours so clearly. For and Oaks hotel I don't understand what's going on here. I'm wondering if I can get my money back and find some place else to stay. I'm not sure if I can last another night Update: I was moved to another room after complaining. It was a room on level 18 and without a balcony. I was glad that I was moved. The new room was nicer and not as stained but it was still a tired looking room which has seen better days. I'll pass coming back to Oaks Collins until management give this old building a massive revamp. Thanks to the staff for helping me out and decommissioning the room on level 16 Photos are of the first room on level 16. There's just one photo of the room on level 18 and you can see my suitcase in it
Let’s do the pros first: the location of this hotel is great. directly in the lobby, however, one is already unsure whether one has landed at a hotel reception or at the train station. Unfortunately, the room hasn't been cleaned properly for a while, the toilet brush has probably never been replaced since it opened and the tiles are crumbling. if you don't look too closely - perfect hotel for work trips where you only go to the hotel room to sleep and possibly take a shower. If you do take a closer look, you might discover bread yes, pita bread and baguette in the kitchen cupboard - moldy bread and with a bit of luck you can even see through the dirty panes and enjoy the view of the skyline : maybe we were just unlucky and this week was difficult. unfortunately we believe that this condition is rather the standard in oaks
The front desk staff were an absolute pleasure to deal with - by far my one gleaming experience for my stay. The location is prime which goes without saying and offers plenty of nearby choices for cafes, restaurants and other places of interest. Whilst the rooms themselves weren't particularly sub par, there were a few key factors that stood out as negatives to my stay. First and foremost as has been my experience with other accommodation in Melbourne unfortunately, the tiled surfaces of the bathroom needed to be deep cleaned a good time ago. I must admit to have donning a pair of sandals to ware the perils of a shower on my first night. As limescale seemed to be prominent on both the kitchen and bathroom sink faucets in addition to the tinea ridden floors, I ended up purchasing some of my own cleaning supplies to remedy the situation upon my return to the room on day 2. And while this leads directly on to my second note for concern here, I will quickly take my opportunity to mention how inexplicably poor the design of the kitchen sink faucet was... A straight neck faucet angled down almost perpendicular to the near edge of the sink basin - which when coupled with the unpredictable water pressure the tabs provided was a recipe for a soaked midriff every time. The faucet shoots out of the pipe directly at the end of the tube, as opposed to being directed downwards over the sink hole. Seriously, this thing was splash mountain. The other issue I offer for feedback was that either the cleaning staff were working with a skeleton crew, or had some other reason they seemed to be stretched thin. Whilst, the complimentary selection of clean towels and toiletries, awaiting my daily return to my room, was certainly well received, sitting atop the freshly made bed, the lack of care in other regards was a let down. For instance, I'm certain the room was not vacuumed once over my entire week long stay evident from the ever increasing buildup of clutter on the carpet each day and I was already sour to the floor situation due to my previous point. This same root issue took form in several other small observations made during my stay but overall nothing was a complete deal breaker if I'm being fair. Overall, my impression of the hotel still remained positive, it was just a shame to see them lose points for issues that shouldn't be overly hard to remedy. Once they were to take care of these factors, my experience would have been completely positive and satisfactory given the price point.
Went to my room and it smelt so bad I could not be in the space. Not sure what it was but I think dead, decomposing animal. After lots of discussion, I was moved to another room. Next room was dirty with stains on the carpet and rubbish on floor. Went looking for an iron and ironing board and there was none. Called reception and they said I would have to wait until the next day for housekeeping. Issue was I had to be at a meeting before housekeeping time. They finally found me an iron but no board. Suggested I iron on a towel on the floor. It was cold so I used the extra blanked which smelt terrible and musty. Its like Ramsey's Hotel Nightmare combined with Faulty Towers. Never again.
