During our visit, the restaurant was very quiet, with only one other table occupied. The service was friendly if not a bit slow, probably owing to the young and nervous waiter's inexperience (he was almost surprised to see us walk through the door, before needing to rummage through the reception to find menus and the wine list). Nonetheless the food exceeded expectations. The cauliflower and cheese croquettes ($13) were great: crunchy on the outside and gooey inside, they were absolutely addictive. The braised duck gnocchi ($32) was hearty and comforting: happily, the gnocchi was freshly made in-house, but unfortunately they were slightly floury. The areas that need improving are very clear: the service and food both need refinement, after which Jarrah could become quite a hit.

Dine at Jarrah Restaurant and Bar in vibrant Southbank and enjoy fresh, local seafood, light pasta dishes and simple grills and steaks.Natural light flows in through Jarrah’s floor-to-ceiling windows, and Southbank’s lights twinkle at night. Choose from the pre-theatre menu before seeing a show at the nearby Arts Centre or MTC, or browse the a la carte menu’s seasonal choice of seafood and meat dishes.

Good menu and wine list here. Focused on Tasmanian produce and wine and does so well. Had one bad steak here once, but otherwise has been excellent. Grab a seat outside if you can.
