We had a family gathering for breakfast. Enjoyed the mushrooms and grilled tomatoes, I'm a big fan of salmon but found it too salty. The staff who looked after our table, a young man was very courteous and with a smile cleared away empty plates and glasses promptly. Experience was below average, decor felt outdated. Windows were dirty. Been in NZ for decades and first time visit here. The reception staff were friendly.
Overall a great experience at the GC.nService at front desk was okay, but not good nor great. Did their job, but didn't go above and beyond, probably not paid enough to go above and beyond to be fair.nRoom was great, not modern but very clean. No cutlery or plates so takeaways not really an option. Obviously they are trying to make you get the expensive room service.nBuffet breakfast absolutely worth it, but only if it's in the deal/package with your room.nNot worth the asking price of $38 but wow, great food and the live cooking station is awesome... poached eggs, pancakes, omelettes all at your request from the chef.nThe chefs on both days were great. Big ups to them having to keep a lot of hangry people happy, especially hard doing in the morning!nLocation is great, catch the lift down to Lambton Quay. with ease.nOf coarse parking is expensive, but it is everywhere in Wellington. Would be awesome if they could get the cost per night for it but can't see it happening in the near future.nI will be back.
I booked in today for a 4 night stay. Check-in was seamless, with great customer service.nnMy room is a spacious king-size room with a nice seating area and desk, which is great for work.nnVery clean. Lovely decor. There are lots of power and USB outlets, which was impressive, so much easier to charge up devices.nnNice sized shower and ensuite. I'm looking forward to my stay.nnVery central location at a great price.nnEdit ...nMy entire stay was fabulous. I want to shout out to Rosa who looks after reception in the Whitby's restaurant. She is the highlight of my stay at James Cook. Always so friendly and professional. Wonderful customer service.
Not the best place to stay for the prices. $250 per night, including breakfast.nBooking was difficult, and booking deals were not honored.nnFood prices astonishingly expensive.nWifi is SLOW.nLimited TV channels.nRooms are bare.nFinding your way around is confusing.nWalls are thin.nnGood things are shower pressure is amazing.nClean.nCentral location.
Stayed at the James Cook over the weekend as part of a big group for a wedding. The hotel location is very central and easy access from the motorway. Great to have all the family wedding party allocated rooms on the same floor. Room service was very helpful and friendly when we requested champagne glasses and an ice bucket.nnThe room appeared to have been recently renovated with a lick of paint and upgraded modern bathrooms. The only bummer was that the water pressure was very weak for such a big open shower. It also would've been nice to have a monsoon shower head available. Also, there was no toilet brush provided, which can come in handy. Otherwise, the bathroom was spacious with plenty of bench space on the vanity and great to have a shelf available in the shower for my stuff.nnThe room only came with one bathrobe, which was odd, but room service brought us another one. Great to have a smart TV in the room with good Sky channels as well as other options for apps like Netflix and Spotify.nnThe bed was very comfortable with lovely soft sheets and pillowcases. Room location seemed nice and quiet which was good.nnThe hot/buffet breakfast options in the Whitby restaurant was very good with plenty of selection to choose from. The price was definitely up there though being $33 for hot/continental breakfast and $38 for buffet breakfast prices for everything have gone up. The actual restaurant area is looking a bit tired and could do with an upgrade.nnStaff were friendly and very accommodating when leaving a room card at the front desk for guests arriving late.nnHotel parking is $30 per night I think? and in the same building as the hotel, which is very convenient.
