Reception is very helpful. The service is excellent. Buffet restaurant food is excellent great service and value.nWe travel through Wellington last few years by far this time staying in James Cook hotel is the best one.
Stayed last week with two rooms booked for family for two nights. Staff are excellent, location great, restaurant is superb the buffet is great value and quality. The major downside were our rooms - threadbare carpet, dated and smelled 'old'. View of carpark and likewise straight into our room. Probably wouldn't go back if other choices available, except to the restaurant. PS - rooms were very quiet.
Like my review! We had a great 3 night stay at James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor in Wellington, New Zealand as part of our road trip across the country. We would highly recommend having parking included in your booking since it was not only convenient but the parking around the area can be difficult and expensive. Although the hotel is on a hill, we had easy access to the main street of The Terrace along with an elevator access down to Lambton Quay giving access to the waterfront and several attractions to dine, drink, exercise, or sightsee. The room was very clean; check in staff was friendly and smooth; bed and pillows were comfortable; bathroom was refreshing with toiletries e.g. shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower cap, vanity kit; fridge was convenient; iron and ironing board; internet was fast; and offerings for use with a provided kettle e.g. instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate, spoon, cups, glasses. There is also an expensive laundry service that you can send away if necessary. Do note that your windows may be viewable by another person with ease. One issue we found is that there's no nearby outlets towards the head of the bed requiring an extension cord and adapter if you have a medical device. There was also a cozy gym, a renovated coffee shop wasn't open while we were there, and a restaurant on the top floor. Overall, we would definitely want to stay here again and would recommend it to our friends and family.
The hotel is on top of the hill about ten minutes walk to all the shops and restaurants on the wharf. It’s a fine hotel. The rooms seem dated, the room itself was very noisy. Just lots of creaks and cracks and house settling sounds. The shower is one of the awkward ones that don’t have a door so you get water all over the floor. The buffet breakfast is large with plenty of options and there’s a coffee shop in the lobby.
Hotel lift opens out to Lambton Quay, so is very central, handy location. Staff were friendly and allowed us to check in at 11.30am on our day of arrival. Our room was satisfactory, clean but dated. The carpet is in desperate need of replacement, and rooms can be a bit noisy with traffic and other guests entering their rooms. Overall, does the job and can't complain for
