Had a lovely stay here on what was, my first trip to NZ and hopefully, not my last!. I understand that they may have been in the process of refurbishment. The room was clean and comfortable. The courtesy tray was a little lacking for two people and, there were no complimentary biscuits, which was a great shame.nnI was struck by the bar area where, I felt the furniture let the hotel down - torn/damaged seating which looked very shabby and generally, neglected. This appearance did not do the hotel any credit at all and was an easily avoidable oversight. In contrast, the cocktail I had there which contained Bailey's was memorable. All in all, I felt that the bar experience was at variance with, the quality of the rooms
Our first stay was amazing. New renovated rooms, big shower, and close to everything. The pillow service was a nice surprise and was a good added touch free of charge. Breakfast was included with our stay and was great but would be a little expensive if not included. Being in the middle of the city, everything was an easy walk and was very convenient. There was even a Woolworth a couple doors down. The second stay we were in an un renovated room but was still decent with the same comfortable beds and pillows even though it felt dated.
It is a great location, and my son liked the view of the highway. However, the carpet in the room was so worn that it had holes in it, and the walls were really thin, so we were woken up by the conversations of everyone who got into their rooms late.nThe staff was very unhelpful and could not answer simple questions about parking and where things were.
There is nothing Grand about the Grand Chancellor. I don't know if they have a good and bad part of the hotel but we definitely got the bad part. The room and hotel in general, was old, dirty and run down. The pillows were terrible and so was the beds. Our curtains had some weird stains on them and the carpwt was filthy, which was a pain because we have a 16 month old. Lucky we were only stuck there for 2 days.nnIf you're going to book here, be sure you get the new rooms if they exist. Because if you get the old you'll be hanging out for your checkout time....
Stayed last week with two rooms booked for family for two nights. Staff are excellent, location great, restaurant is superb the buffet is great value and quality. The major downside were our rooms - threadbare carpet, dated and smelled 'old'. View of carpark and likewise straight into our room. Probably wouldn't go back if other choices available, except to the restaurant. PS - rooms were very quiet.
