When I booked two Deluxe Family Rooms at Furama Darling Harbour for a 6-day stay with family, I had high hopes for comfort, convenience, and a pleasant experience. Here’s how it went.nnLocation: Convenient, but Parking WoesnThe location of Furama Darling Harbour is undoubtedly one of its highlights. Nestled within walking distance of numerous restaurants offering cuisines from all over the globe, it was a food lover's dream. Finding the hotel wasn’t a challenge either, thanks to clear signage and central placement.nnHowever, the parking situation? That’s another story. The hotel doesn’t have an on-site parking lot. Instead, we had to park about a five-minute walk away, which isn’t ideal when lugging bags or dealing with Sydney’s occasional drizzle. Plus, the cost added up—$244 AUD for six days. If parking convenience matters to you, it’s worth factoring this in.nnCleanliness: Mixed ExperiencesnCleanliness was... average, to say the least. While the first day seemed fine, housekeeping didn’t exactly shine as the stay went on. On Day 2, we were surprised and not in a good way to find dirty towels left after the room was cleaned. Fast forward to Day 5, and we found toilet paper and stray hairs under the blanket after housekeeping had supposedly “refreshed” the space. Not exactly the five-star housekeeping you’d hope for.nnTo be fair, we didn’t raise the issue with reception that evening—it was our last night, and we figured housekeeping staff would already be off-duty. But, as a guest, you shouldn’t have to weigh these options.nnService: Quick and Friendly, But a Breakfast MishapnService at Furama Darling Harbour was a bright spot overall. The staff were warm, responsive, and accommodating, whether it was resolving issues with the TV or bringing up extra towels.nnThat said, we hit a snag with the included breakfast. Our booking clearly stated breakfast for four people per room, which should have covered eight of us across two rooms. Yet, when we went down, they claimed the booking only covered four breakfasts total. After some back-and-forth with both hotel staff and Trip’s customer service, the issue was resolved. But it wasn’t exactly a stress-free start to the day.nnFacilities: Functional, But Nothing FancynThe gym was basic but functional—a single machine covering major muscle groups, though no free weights were in sight. It’s fine if you’re just looking to get in a quick workout. The laundry room was handy, though a bit pricey: $5 AUD each to wash and dry, plus $3 AUD for detergent.nnBreakfast, while initially enjoyable, became repetitive after two days. A buffet should ideally offer more variety, but here the options changed only slightly. Updating the in-room TVs to include smart features wouldn’t hurt either; it felt like the tech was stuck in the past.nnRooms: Spacious and ComfortablenNow, for the standout feature—the rooms. They were impressively spacious, with plenty of room for our luggage and still enough space to move around comfortably. The beds? Absolute heaven. I slept like a rock every night, with no noise disturbances or distractions.nnThe bathroom mirrored this sense of space, steering clear of that cramped, claustrophobic feeling that some hotels suffer from. It’s refreshing to stay somewhere that values comfort this much.nnFinal Thoughts: Worth a Stay, Despite FlawsnWould I recommend Furama Darling Harbour? Absolutely, especially for families. The spacious rooms, friendly service, and fantastic location make it a strong contender. Yes, cleanliness and parking could use improvement, but the positives—comfortable beds, quiet nights, and accommodating staff—outweigh the negatives.nnIf you can overlook a few quirks and minor inconveniences, Furama offers a good home base for exploring Sydney. Just be ready for some parking acrobatics and keep an eye on those housekeeping details!
It used to be Holiday Inn before when the first time I stayed here.nnLocation:The location is perfect, reachable to tram, Paddy's Market where you can find affordable souvenirs, Darling Harbour, Darling Square, Darling Quarter.nnService: Good hostility. The staffs were friendly they let us have an early check-in which was a very kind gesture.nnRoom: The room was just enough, not too small but not too large. I got a room at the corner, the view was blocked by the chinese buildings around there.nnBreakfast: I love their pancakes, took ages to make but they were so good and soft, I forgot to ask where they got the machine. Tbh, one of the reasons I love the breakfast here!!!
Had a wonderful long weekend. Was able to check-in early as the room was ready instead of leaving luggage until check-in time which was lovely.nnReception staff were all very friendly and helpful.nnWill certainly book again when next in Sydney.nnHighly recommend staying here.
Extremely disappointed with our stay. Initially, none of the plug-ins in the room were functional, and during repairs, the power was repeatedly turned off without informing us. When the issue was finally resolved, the manager offered no apology.nnHousekeeping was poorly managed. Despite leaving the “clean” label outside by 8 a.m., the rooms were often still uncleaned or being cleaned when we returned at 3 p.m., forcing us to wait elsewhere. Amenities were only fully restocked once during our five-night stay, with missing items like tissues and towels on other days. On the last day, only one set of shower towels was provided.nnThe hair dryer overheated after a few minutes of use, which was inconvenient for long-haired guests. Additionally, the bathroom design was impractical, with the flushing buttons placed awkwardly behind the toilet lid, making them difficult to access.nnOverall, poor communication, inconsistent service, and impractical design made our stay frustrating and unsatisfactory.
The hotel used to be really pleasant during holiday inn days. But once it got sold to Furama, everything went on a steep decline. Room cleanliness is horrible now with hair littered all over the bathroom. Tables were also not wiped. Tissue paper and toilet roll quality has declined and they use really poor quality ones now. The thing that irked me the most is that I get really shitty sleep cause the bed linens are dirty and made me really itchy. Also, the bed isn’t properly made and the sheets aren’t tucked in causing sheets to move about and my skin is in direct contact with the duvet and the mattress. The housekeeping needs serious retraining.
