Nice hostel, our dorm was quite clean, bathroom and toilets too.nGood location only 5-7min walking to town but parking is very hard to find around the hostel!nThe guy at the reception was friendly and helpful.nI recommend this place for your stay in Queenstown!
I couldn’t get a photo as we had roommates at the time but good god I’m never coming back out there. The sheets were not washed and the room was definitely not cleaned well. I was appalled by the shared kitchen, there were stacked food everywhere which was not organized and we couldn’t use it well and there were unwashed dishes too. Not only that but we were assured we can see a late check in form and that a key was readily available but when we get there, it wasn’t prepared; I had to make a call so we can get in. No parking space!
Terrible organized hostel. After booking on their website, we didn't get a confirmation. After several e-mails we finally got an answer: they we're reconsidering their prizes and conditions, so they couldn't confirm our booking yet. We would receive a mail when we could make a new booking. The next mail was to inform us that our booking was declined and that a new booking wasn't possible...
Really nice hostel. Great location 5 minute walk from downtown, just have to climb a short hill. Pretty cheap compared to everything else in town. Super friendly and social, met lots of friends while I was there. You can go out to town with people all the time, there are events organized somewhat regularly. Rooms can get a little cold at night in the winter, but they are clean and comfortable.
For me, hippo lodge is the nicest hostel on the South Island so far. The manager is really friendly and looks after everyone like best friends. The atmosphere here is very family-like. We cook, bake and do lots of things together. It never gets boring here! The whole hostel is clean because it is cleaned every morning... the whole team is very helpful and the community is wonderful : I have been here for over a month and plan to stay longer :
