Trying to visit the Art Gallery with a disabled overseas visitor who uses a wheelchair. No disabled permit as she is not an Australian resident. Both lifts out of order and no way out other than stairs. We wasted around half an hour trying to find a way out with no success. Cost us $19.
I work nearby and have seen this parking facility decline since Wilson took over. Rates have increased sharply—up to 100% over the past five years—without any noticeable improvements to the facilities. The lift to the Art Gallery has been out of order for at least two or three years, with a “temporarily out of order” sign that makes things especially difficult for disabled patrons and parents with prams. More recently, the checkout machine at the bottom of the stairs has been out of order for months, meaning you can no longer pay with cash—only by credit card at the gate. Overall, it feels like a poorly managed operation that puts extra burden on its customers.
Good value parking if you book ahead and in a good location for the city via a very pleasant walk through a park, and great for getting out of the city if you are heading south.
Don't bother with this carpark if you want to go to the city especially if you have a disability. Wilson/ Botanic Gardens don't want to maintain the moving walkway. Happy to take a premium for parking though thats out of the way. Tight arises.
Great rates at this Wilson car park with easy access to the city, Royal Botanic Gardens and the Art Gallery of NSW - book online for a $10 weekend rate. Clean and bright, with direct lift access to the south side of the Art Gallery and travelator to Hyde Park. Most of the car park is above ground due to being build on a slope so lots of natural light. There are two lifts to the parkland directly next to the art gallery, following the signs
