Horrible, I'd give it a minus star if I could.  First the car we got was rented through Expedia, and when I checked with a budget rep in the US it supposed to have a GPS, it didn't, and we had to pay an extra $50 to get one.  Then the GPS we got was mismatched between the GPS unit and the mount, so I had to trudge back to the counter to get one which matched.  Then during our trip we started getting  a service message that the car was past its service schedule and needed an oil service, not exactly a confidence booster when driving through mountain roads.  Lastly when we turned the car in at the Christchurch airport they gave us a story that they couldn't give us our bill because it was too late to get it checked out.  Perhaps it's a coincidence, but when they finally posted our invoice several days later I found that they charged me 70% more than the contracted price from Expedia.  When I contacted the NZ Budget  customer service rep she agreed with me about the overcharge,  said her supervisor had to authorize the refund, who coincidently wasn't available, and the supervisor would get back to me the next day, which never happened.  When I got back to the states Expedia tried to resolve the problem with Budget who wouldn't,  so Expedia, to their credit, honored their quote and arranged a satisfactory resolution.  So in the end  Budget rented me a car needing service, couldn't handle a simple task like giving me a GPS which could be mounted on a windshield  and refused to honor the price Expedia rented the car to me through them.  Bottom line, I would stay away from renting from Budget NZ.

Customer service is very poor. I rang time and time again in a space of 5hrs only to have one person answer my call, however then proceeded to tell me i needed to ring back, due to others on the line also... to my surprise i was shocked. My flight was delayed 8hrs... and they weren't interested. Hard to find good help.. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO BUDGET!!!

Should have read reviews before using. Different employees gave different pricings when picking up car, despite my booking had been made weeks earlier and pricing was already confirmed by that time. When returning car, price agreed at pick-up was again increased by $20 or so, with employees blaming other employees for giving misleading information... Train your employees better and build integrity... Oh not to mention they tried to give me different cars, I had to argue with them for over 30m for the car I booked... And an extra charge on credit card after the whole event, seriously???

Our service was good here although they are a little slow. We saved $450 due to a misunderstanding with a ferry charge. Thanks.
