Budget NZ charged us $412.80 without warning. Dishonest, deceptive operation.nnWe returned our rental on time and in good condition. We received the final invoice, thought everything was settled — then days later, Budget NZ quietly charged us an extra $412.80.nnThere was no explanation, no breakdown, no communication whatsoever. Just a large, unexplained deduction from our account.nnOn pickup, they tricked us into prepaying $85 for a “full tank refill” at $1.90 per litre, claiming it was cheaper than filling up ourselves. When we later refilled the car at a much higher pump price of $2.50/L, it still only cost $75 — proving their prepaid fuel “deal” was actually more expensive for less fuel.nnBetween the unjustified charge and the misleading fuel scheme, it’s clear this company targets customers who won’t fight back.nnBudget NZ behaves like a scam operation, not a professional rental service.nAvoid at all costs.

Absolute scam!! 1.5hr wait to picking vehicle up. Booked & paid for an SUV, was given keys to a sedan because “it’s the only vehicle we have”. Turns out he was looking at the wrong keys…..nExtremely unorganised! When dropping vehicle off, wanted to charge another $115 - couldn’t even tell me what the charge was for. Turned out to be insurance which is fine.n2 mins later the charge increased to $123. Again I asked why - apparently for “extra time”. Vehicle was dropped an hour early!!! Ended up just paying as we didn’t have time or patience.nFirst & last time I’ll use this company

UNSCRUPULOUS COMPANY. I will give them 0 star if I could. Budget claimed it will cost $320 for me to reserve a rental car but ended up charging me $444. We returned the car last Sunday and they unlawfully charged us another $420 without notifying me on Wednesday. They also lied to us that they could top up the tank for me at a cheaper rate for $85 at the rate of $1.90 per litre but I topped up the tank elsewhere at $2.50 per litre and it only cost me $70. This company should be sued.

Not much exciting to say about a car rental company. Nonetheless, it was a pretty good car hire experience and I would use them again. Drop of was really easy, but it is a bit of a walk to the international terminal so suggest you take the free shuttle if you aren't looking to get your steps up for the day.

ATTENTION! We returned the rental car on time before our return flight. However, Budget sent us an invoice stating that we returned the car one day and 10 hours later than originally scheduled, and we have to pay an additional NZD 172. My tip for everyone: Wait for written confirmation that you returned the car on time! The days when you could trust a company are unfortunately over. It's a shame.
