David helped my 11 year son get setup with his gaming PC. It was a great experience. Having done all his own online research it came down to PC Gear in Melbourne or here. We chose here although it was a bit more in price. Why? David advised my son on his choices, how to assemble tips and offered local support if there were tech glitches. As the parent bystander providing only the finances, and no tech input, I simply stood by and watched the process run smoothly.
So many opinions on these guys on Whirlpool. : Anyhow, they were my local computer store. They are cheap. Will generally match prices. Generally speak with some knowledge. And even though I don't live near them anymore... I usually end up going back to them for bits and pieces.
ARC Computers doesn't have the cheapest price, nor the best service, nor the widest range, and the part you are after is always out of stock. What ARC does have is a great location with somewhat inconvenient opening hours, if you happened to live near Chatswood. I come here to buy parts only when the stars align.
Bob was honest and very helpful. Saved me a ton. Dell computers on this phone had spent a long time remotely checking my computer and came to the conclusion that my wifi card needing replacing. After he inspected my computer quickly and saw that it was going to require a lot more labour than he thought opening the computer based on the position of the card, he have me the option of just buying a wireless USB receiver for $30. Way cheaper option. Dell said a new card and labour could be up to $300! Stoked. Thanks Bob.
It's been a while since I built my last computer, so I was after some advise as well as the parts when I visited. I spoke to David, who was very willing to help-out, and helped me avoid a few gotchas. Good prices as well.
Not very customer-focused - they do their job well and know their tech, but they're not helpful about answering questions or getting to know what you need. Also seems a little overpriced - many other services can do what they do cheaper.
My laptop came back more broken than when I gave it to them. My laptop was functional, but was getting warm. All I asked was for them to clean out the dust and replace the thermal paste. When I got it back, the fan didn't spin at all, and the screen had a wierd yellow tinge. Everything which should have been white was yellow. Everything else displayed fine. They fixed the fan at no extra cost, but not the screen. They tried to blame the screen fault on the fact that I use Linux, but the same fault happened with Windows. And anyway, I didn't give them the password, so they couldn't have done anything to the software. Hence, it wasn't Linux's fault. They eventually admitted fault over the phone, and said they'd pay for the repair. Then they realised that the repairs would be really expensive, so they went back to saying that it's because I use Linux, and that 'you can't prove it wasn't like that when you brought it in.' I didn't get the admission of fault in writing, so they refused to pay for the repair. They said I'd have to go to the manufacturer and ask them for proof that Arc computers caused the screen fault. Of course the manufacturer refused to do that, because they're not obligated to and it would only make them liable. They also called me to specifically ask for my BIOS password. My BIOS isn't password locked, and they didn't need to go into the BIOS anyway. So they don't even understand how BIOS menus work.
Pretty good pricing and the person working there is friendly and helpful. The store needs a good clean up though. You really need to know what you want before you get there.
Keith helped me at chatswood, he did an amazing job on my computer and gave me the best advice in regards to power supply's, sli, cases, etc, highly recommend!
They sometimes price match which is really nice. There prices are usually higher than normal and stocks aren't the best. I advise to check stocks online then go in-store to purchase.
