Newina Rotorua

Had a great stay here. Location PERFECT for skyline and main routes in and out of the area, but a decent walk into town which we enjoyed. The motel was spotless, the amenities great, and staff friendly and helpful. Stayed in a few motels during our travels and this was a top three!

We stayed for two nights, and after the first night the room was not cleaned at all — the rubbish was still there and the bedding hadn’t been changed.nBecause we were travelling with a young child, we moved the beds slightly closer together to make it safer and easier for the two nights. When we checked out, however, we were charged an extra $50 just to move the beds back to their original position.nnHonestly, I could have moved them back myself in five minutes, but it felt like they simply wanted to charge the extra fee, so I paid it.nThe property looks clean at first glance, but in reality it wasn’t very practical or well-maintained.nnThe price was also one of the top three most expensive options at the time, so we were already paying a premium — but even with that, the experience didn’t meet basic expectations.nnI didn’t want to leave a review like this, but I felt it was important to share my experience so others know what to expect.

Recently stayed at Newina and was thoroughly impressed! The room was clean and spacious. The breakfast was delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to ensure a comfortable experience—thanks for their outstanding service.

We were deeply disappointed with our stay. Despite the advertised 3pm check-in, our room wasn’t ready on time. When we asked for an explanation, we were told flatly that this is just “how it is now”—no apology, no sense of responsibility, just a shrug and a wait.nnThe location is right on a busy main road, and the noise is relentless—especially from trucks at night. It was nearly impossible for our kids to sleep, and we all struggled to get any rest.nnWhat made things worse was the experience at the front desk. The lady at reception was not only unhelpful but also shockingly rude. When we reached out to Expedia to report the situation, she falsely claimed she had offered us an alternative room—something that never happened.nnWhat made it worse was the room cleaning, very poorly done, no towels, tissues or vacuuming, we had to go and ask.nnWe left feeling frustrated, unheard, and exhausted. Sadly, we won’t be returning to this property, and we hope others are spared a similar experience
