We booked a deluxe twin room with mountain views. The check in process was seamless. The staff treated us great the whole 11 night stay. The room was modern and very clean. Our beds were different firmness but that worked great for us as we have different preferences. The rooms are very sound proof and although the road was right outside our window we could barely hear it. This definitely isn’t some 5 star hotel, and for the affordable price you shouldn’t expect that. However I was truly blown away by our great experience here.nnI’d recommend a car if you’re staying here. It’s about 5 minute drive out of town, but I prefer it that way. We stay frequently in Rotorua and this will now be the hotel we stay with every time. Thank you to the team at Awa for making our stay so comfortable.
Our room was ready on time when we checked in, and was nice and clean, but even though it was newly renovated it was very basic. It wasn't very big. We were in a room that had 2 double beds, so slept 4 people but there was only 1 chair available at a very small table for 1 person. Only 1 pillow per person, no spares available, and when we entered the room it was freezing, the air-con was on so high. I asked about the buffet restaurant, but only received a vague answer, and was none the wiser about where it was, or when it was open, so we ate out instead. This is the only hotel I have ever stayed at in NZ with no carpet in any part of the room, and only vinyl wood panels on the floor. It made the room noisy and cold. The staff were polite and professional, though they didn't say much, as English is not their first language. There was nothing seriously wrong during our stay, but it wasn't very comfortable, so I wouldn't stay here again. Value for money 2/5.
I am a fee-paying guest and not affiliated with the owners or any staff worked there. Being a migrant from China, I understood and agreed to many other review, but also to point out the circumstances.nnFacilities: really basic facilities in room, without kitchenette that you would expect in a motel. Restaurant unsure whether it is under normal operation or not. Counter to it - the room is clean, bed is soft and comfy, there is a microwave and dinnerware you could use in lobby while not so apparent and you have to ask staff.nnServices - most controversial point. There are limited English-speaking staff in there only one at the moment which works PM shift only from my eavesdropping. Hence you find lots of mandarin-speaking guests said service was good but not the non-mandarin speakers. They are really nice and helpful staff but just lack the language skills. You do expect English as the first and common language in NZ though so obviously a staffing issue.nnLastly, the price is very affordable in deed worth every penny in today’s high living costs environment.nnFor me, not first option in Rotorua when you want some fancy occasion but totally acceptable and happy to stay just want a good price-quality ratio and clean accommodation.
Place is more like a motel than a hotel. The room itself was like an IKEA show room, which is fine but the lights in our room didn’t turn off fully. If you don’t have a car it’s not really convenient unless you’re okay with taking the public bus. Although it is right next to the Skyline Rotorua. Does the job if you’re just looking for somewhere to sleep.
From floor to ceiling, this motel was filthy. Never have i ever stayed in a more disgusting accommodation. It may be affordable, but it was certainly not worth it - shower appears to have not been cleaned in months, mouldy sink, only one stained sheet to sleep in, dirty cups and cutlery. Do not recommend to anyone.
