You get a great view of the Auckland Waitemata harbour and Rangitoto island. The memorial garden is filled with poppies and seasonal flowers and are well maintained.
Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park is a true Auckland treasure, offering a serene blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and breathtaking views that make it an absolute must-visit for anyone in the area. My visit to this park was both peaceful and inspiring, and it’s a place I’d highly recommend to locals and visitors alike.nnLocated on a hill overlooking the Waitematā Harbour and Rangitoto Island, the park offers some of the most stunning panoramic views in all of Auckland. As soon as you arrive, the sense of tranquility and connection with nature is palpable. The park is beautifully maintained, with lush gardens, neatly trimmed lawns, and vibrant flower beds that create a picturesque setting perfect for a relaxing stroll or a quiet moment of reflection.nnThe centerpiece of the park is the memorial to Michael Joseph Savage, one of New Zealand’s most respected Prime Ministers, known for his significant contributions to the country’s social welfare system. The memorial itself is a striking Art Deco structure surrounded by a reflective pool and meticulously manicured gardens. The design is both elegant and solemn, perfectly honoring the legacy of a leader who played such a pivotal role in shaping modern New Zealand.nnWhat makes this park even more special is its peaceful ambiance. Despite its popularity, it never feels overcrowded, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural surroundings and the historical significance of the site. The tranquility of the park is complemented by the soft sounds of birds and the gentle rustling of leaves, making it an ideal spot to unwind and take in the beauty around you.nnOne of the highlights of my visit was simply sitting on one of the many benches scattered throughout the park, taking in the sweeping views of the harbor and the city skyline. Whether you’re visiting on a clear, sunny day or during a more overcast time, the vistas are always breathtaking. The park also offers plenty of open spaces, making it a great place for a picnic or just to relax on the grass with a book.nnThe pathways throughout the park are well-paved and accessible, making it easy for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy. There’s also ample parking nearby, which adds to the convenience of visiting. For those interested in photography, this park offers endless opportunities to capture the natural beauty of Auckland, especially during sunrise or sunset when the light casts a magical glow over the landscape.nnWhat I found particularly moving was the sense of history that permeates the park. The memorial not only honors Michael Joseph Savage but also serves as a reminder of New Zealand’s rich political and social history. It’s a place where you can truly appreciate the legacy of a leader who had a profound impact on the nation.nnIn summary, Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park is a place of peace, beauty, and historical significance. It’s a spot that invites you to pause, reflect, and appreciate both the natural world and the important figures in New Zealand’s history. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a quiet place to relax, this park is sure to leave a lasting impression. I can’t recommend it highly enough and look forward to returning on my next visit to Auckland.
Great view of the city, north shore, Rangitoto and the Gulf. Fly a kite. Have a picnic. Short track up from Mission Bay.
A gorgeous hidden away grounding spot, a must have for a break from the city or for people traveling through. Great spot for a photoshoot and for views. There are toilets too.
Outstanding museum. The collection you see it is simply mind flowing. Especially World War 1, all the facts and incidents are simply unimaginable.
