Super basic and budget, good for a short stay if you only want to sleep in your room. Rooms are extremely dated, smelt very musty and had no fans only windows. The place was clean enough, and the beds fine. Wouldn't reccommened unless you are okay with extremely basic accommodation! Location is good but no parking on site and the street is super busy. Bit of a walk up Secure paid parking up the street.
Lovely apartment, comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, nice kitchen with fridge, all clean. Location is good, around 1,5 km from city centre. Friendly staff at reception. All in all a place I'd like to visit again whenever in Auckland. Had to withdraw one star for providing internet only with payment.Rooms: 5/5
I was going to rent an apartment here, but I couldn’t move in for another 4 weeks, so the man ushering me around said I could secure the apartment if I put down a $100 deposit. I came in the next day to find out it was actually $200 to secure the apartment, so I paid the $200. The following day I was made a better offer at another apartment, so I came back to get my deposit back to find out I wasn’t able to get a refund according to their “big company policy”, which they never disclosed to me. Instead of making a big fuss, I decided to just let it go because money isn’t important to me. Don’t do negotiations or deals securing apartments with these people here, misleading and untrustworthy, and they definitely do not care about you as a tenant or as a person, you’re just another $ for them.
Is it incredibly cheap for its location? Yes. Just be forewarned that the walls are thin and the neighbours often inconsiderate. In saying that, my husband lived there for 6 months and didn't hate it, in fact he got used to the random noises at all hours and enjoyed being right near the hub of the city. It's not peaceful, its not glamorous, but it is cheap accommodation in the heart of a very expensive city.
Stayed here 2 nights for new years, all doors including the bathroom door would not lock which is a big inconvenience, no privacy. The beds are extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. There are stains all over the room and in the shower floor which shows the rooms don’t get cleaned or checked up on properly. Our toilet was leaking for both days we stayed, not fun. Finding a park was the hardest part, people would sit in their car and wait for a park to become available because the car park is so small. And to top this all off, the employees do not pick up the phone whatsoever. Good luck getting in touch with an employee to book a stay here.
I stayed here for three months in 2020. My room and the shared space in my apartment was not at all clean. Very bad bathroom and shower condition. With shower curtains dirty and broken bathroom mirro. Very old and diry shower space not cleaned neatly. The same for the kitchen space. Their is cleaning service provide for the shared space if living with flatmates but everything was still dirty looking even after the cleaning. Also my room was beside a dumpster area so it always smelled.
Do not stay here! My friend rented a room, the room mate they receptionist put him with is a phyco with prior. Starts smashing the room and trying to break in, in the middle of the night. Had to get the police involved to save him from his own room. Helped him to move out that night and Empire WOULD NOT refund the deposit even with the police report.
I stayed here in 2019 and the property manager during that time here was extremely unprofessional. I had no time to check the room before moving in and I was assigned a terrible apartment with flies all over the place. Soon after, I informed her that I need a different apartment but she refused. I knew for a fact that one of the rooms of one of my friends apartment in the same building was vacant and I specifically asked her whether it's possible to move there. She refused citing no reason. It was also my first time living out of my home country so I was not very confident to move out and find a different apartment, given the locations of this one was very convenient for me. Although she agreed for the room change few months later it was not due to my request but to assign my room and another room in my apartment which was vacant to two people who wanted to stay together. The common area was in a terrible condition and she acted like I am responsible for converting that to a livable place.
For those wanting to experience what its like living in "Peach trees projects" from Judge Dredd, absolute 5 star experience. However... pictures do not represent actual room advertised. Likely the most unclean bathroom and room i have ever stayed. Stains on walls, mould everywhere, paper thin walls and everything appears to be run down, sticky/stained or broken. In hindsight, what did we expect for $90 a night. Central city location is fantastic but we'd reccomend wearing a stab-proof vest before leaving your room in the evening incase you walk into the savory neighbours in your cell block. For added value, consider buying a 6 pack from your local liquor store. Get a delicious burger from RE Burger next door and lock your door, jam the door closed with the ironing board provided to prevent any unnecessary uninvited cell mates and read the rest of the 1/5 reviews.
There is no way this place should be operating!! We arrived to water left all over the floor in the 'foyer', said reception open but no service or anyone around. We tried calling but no one would answer the phone. Finally got a key to our rooms only to find they had not been cleaned, rubbish everywhere, blood on the bedding and the room stunk like a bunch of students had partied all night. Didn't want to go back down in the elevator due to blood, cotton buds with ear wax and feaces in there so chose the stairs only to find even more of the same! We did get upgraded which meant we were 2 floors higher which also meant more time with the blood, feaces and earwax. There were 5 of us and somehow we managed to share the 2 cups, 1 fork, 2 knives and 3 plates. To whoever was in the room prior to us - we flushed the toilet for you. The only saving grace is the location which is great, a 20min walk to the Viaduct or a short uber. I would recommend trying the local prison or homeless shelter before resorting to empire apartments.
